La Mer The Eye Balm Intense

La Mer is a brand that is famous for luxury skincare that many celebrities and magazines swear by. Its beginnings are the stuff of legends: a NASA aerospace physicist, Dr. Max Huber, worked for 12 long years to heal the scars he got from fuel rocket burns. After experimenting with sea kelp and bio-fermentation, he formulated the world-renowned Miracle Broth, which is supposed to help "sooth, nourish, and renew the skin". Read the interesting article of Time Magazine on it and you'll also find out why it's so expensive. ;)

Now, La Mer recently launched the newest member of the brand's skincare family called The Eye Balm Intense. It's a luxe eye cream that comes with a silver-tipped applicator to enhance micro-stimulation. It is supposed to turn back the hands of time, and it better, since it is $145 per half an ounce! That's P6,090 converted, sans taxes when sold here in the Philippines.

I've had the pleasure of using this cream these past two weeks. Here are my impressions!

What I love about the product

  • Dramatically reduced the puffiness of my eyes. This has always been a big problem, especially during mornings after waking up.
  • Slightly reduced the appearance of my fine lines.
  • Feels immediately cool and soothing when applied.
  • Kept my eye area hydrated.
  • Absorbs quickly, a minute tops.
  • Perfect concealer base. Even thick and dry concealers like the MAC Studiofinish will glide on top of this.
  • A little goes a really, really long way. I only dab my fingertip once on the pot and that's good for both eyes already.

This amount is enough for both eyes. This is a cream-type product, but it feels like a balm.

What I don't like about the product?

  • Need I say it? The price tag.

Recommendations

If you can afford it, why not? This is a great eye cream from one of the best brands out there. La Mer is a cult favorite for a reason, and it's not just clever marketing. There are more affordable alternatives out there which will work just as well but La Mer is La Mer.

Verdict

I love it! I will go buy this when I have more disposable income, perhaps ten years down the road? Haha. I really love how glamorous and luxurious I feel when I have this on. I can't say the same for other eye creams that I've tried.

Dr. Sarabia dishing out eye care tips during the launch of The Eye Balm Intense

Post script - I was a bit intimidated during the event, as only the country's top magazine editors and writers were there. You know, I've always wanted to be one of them and (I say this as a fact, without being mayabang about it) I suppose I am now. But there are still so many things for me to learn, to achieve. I'm sometimes disheartened that I'm not going anywhere - and then there is you, reader. Thanks.

Thanks also to Ina (so nice seeing you again!) and Carrot of La Mer/Bobbi Brown for making me feel totally at home.
