Should you change your beauty routine now that it's the rainy season?

The rainy season here in the Philippines can be as brutal as summer in the sense that it can disrupt routines, important scheduled activities, and worst of all - our makeup, hair, and outfit! Ugh! There's nothing more annoying than having our immaculate look being ruined by mud and sprays of rain.

Oh sure it's great if you're unexpectedly reuniting with your long-lost first love (ala The Notebook). However, if you're going to work or school it's not a good idea to look bedraggled with (oh no!) smeared makeup in front of your peers.

We wish!

So, should you change your beauty routine to accommodate the rainy season? Definitely yes! The changes need not be drastic, but these tweaks can help you keep your polish in non-stop, torrential rainy days. ;)

Wear waterproof makeup. D'oh! Long-wearing foundation is already a staple whether we're going through a sizzling or wet day. It's a given. But waterproof mascara and eyeliner are non-negotiables if you're going to go head-on with the rain. They're harder to take off but at least you won't be worrying about raccoon eyes everytime they get wet. Tip: Go for gel liners; they won't dissolve or smear with water.

Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara - you can swim in this stuff!

Kanebo Kate Gel Eyeliner

Smashbox Studio Skin 15-Hour Wear Foundation is fairly water-resistant

Pile on the blush before you head out. Blush fades faster in rainy weather. The water and overabundance of moisture in the air can break down the color easily. You can go for tints and creams set with powder for better staying power, but if you don't want to use your favorite powder blush, just add more before you leave so that it has already faded before you get to a dry place.

Don't put too much blush of course! Just a little more than you would usually wear. ;)

Shimmer and shine! Most gurus will caution against shiny and shimmery makeup during the day. True, it can look too much under the bright sun if not carefully done. But in a gloomy wet day? It's your best friend! Forget the matte eyeshadows which will just look flat in the gray daylight. Highlight the high areas of your face to create dimension and catch more light.

The Guerlain Meteorites Perles in Teint Dore 03 is my favorite illuminator of all time. It's very subtle, almost undetectable, but my face just glows when I wear it! Super worth the P3,000 price tag. I've had it for a year and a half and I'm not even 70% through.

Etude House Dear My Blooming Cheek Blush in Breathless Pink is a blush highlighter combo. Useful when you want dewy cheeks!

Keep your hair up. The humidity and wetness will make your hair frizzy and limp, whatever product you use. Tie it up to save yourself from a bad hair day. You can try one of those cute braids, if you wish!

If you really must put your hair down, apply some volumizing mousse first then tie it up in a braid or bun. You can unravel it when you get to work/school for gorgeous hair with a lot of body. ;)

And that's it! Hope this helps. ;) Tell me, what changes do you make in your beauty routine when it rains?
