M.A.C Week: Rebel, See Sheer, and Lustering Lipsticks

M.A.C lipsticks are some of the most vibrant, complex ones out there. You can find anything from sweet pinks, severe browns, sexy reds, daring purples, or even stark black if you're into that. ;) Each new collection has at least a new shade or two of lipstick so there's always something to covet if you're a collector, or a simple lover of color.

The downside is that not all lipsticks have a great formula. Some may look streaky or fade easily. That's why you should always check reviews and swatch the lippies in person if you can, as this will save you a lot of grief in the long run. I've reviewed a few already so please do check them out! That said, here's a new batch of permanent M.A.C lipsticks for you to check out.

I'll begin with the MAC Lipstick in Rebel (P1,000). Rebel has a satin finish, which is full-bodied, pigmented, and a wee bit glossy. It's a color that I've always been hearing about from beauty bloggers here and abroad, so I got one to see if it's worth the hype. Dahhlings, it is. It's such an amazing color!

I've always thought of Rebel as a gothic red shade based on the swatches I've seen online, but on me it's a deep fuchsia with a strong purple base. This is daring alright, no question about it! I usually prefer to wear this in full during evening engagements, but during the day a stain of Rebel can live through a greasy lunch. Yes, it's quite long-wearing.

MAC Rebel is a bold, fuchsia purple. It's the kind of lipstick that looks different according to who wears it! It can look hot pink, deep red, or even berry on certain skintones. In my swatch above, it's a little bit darker in person.

I apply two layers of Rebel to get this level of opacity - unexpected considering how dark it is - but once it has set the color pretty much just stays there. Texture is not overly dry, although I would still recommend a lick of balm to prime the lips.

Overall, MAC Rebel is a great lipstick, and definitely worth getting if you're into unforgettable shades.

Next up is the MAC Lipstick in See Sheer. It's a muted coral-peach with a brown base. I love it because it flatters my skintone well, and it's non-threatening enough to wear to meetings! :P It's perfect as an everyday lipstick if you're mid-toned or morena like me.

See Sheer is the lipstick to wear to complete a neutral look. It works well with warm neutral eyeshadows in particular, as well as peach, coral, or orange blushes. It's a lipstick for the more conservative woman, but even so it looks modern and fresh.

It has mid to full coverage depending on how many layers you use. Lasting power is average, at three hours. It's a bit more moisturizing than Satin lipsticks, so I often skip balm underneath it.

MAC Lipstick in See Sheer swatch. Sorry about the crappy photo, I'll try to update this when I can! It doesn't do justice to how pretty the lipstick is. I swear it doesn't emphasize lines this much.

Last, here's the MAC Lipstick in Lustering. Okay, this is my least favorite of the bunch. It's described as a warm watermelon pink - quite accurate - but it is too streaky to my liking. Even with several layers, it doesn't evenly shade my lips. I don't have particularly pigmented lips so I don't understand why I can't make Lustering work for me. Oh well. On the up side, it's very pretty from afar. :P

Lustering is a safe pink to wear to just about anywhere, I think. Match it with barbie pink and peachy pink blushes to bring out the best of the color.

Lustering's staying power is average, and if you have normal lips, this should be moisturizing enough.

So there you go! Hope you found this swatchfest useful. ^_^ Which lipstick did you like best? Which ones do you have? Would love to hear your thoughts!
