Just in: How the Body Shop commits to Enrich Not Exploit

Our love affair with The Body Shop starts with their amazing product line-up. Their Vitamin E range has long been a staple in our kits and of course, who hasn’t had a TBS Lip and Cheek Tint in their makeup-loving life? Behind these staples and the latest skincare releases, our respect for the brand deepens as they also have an incredible CSR that is truly inspiring.

On their 40th anniversary, The Body Shop launched their global campaign and renewed their commitment to Enrich Not Exploit™. They shared their story and their vision with us at the event held last week at Le Petit Souffle in Makati.

With measurable targets for realization come 2020, The Body Shop has three core pillars in the program – Enrich Our People, Enrich Our Products, and Enrich Our Planet. Each of these pillars focus on sustainability, community trade, and resource management so we can be sure that The Body Shop products we use contribute towards a greater good. You can read more about their commitment at http://www.thebodyshop.com/commitment.

In line with their thrust, The Body Shop invited SALT.ph’s CEO, engineer Aisa Mijeno, to share with us her Sustainable Alternative Lighting. Run by saline solution in lieu of kerosene, the salt lamps aim to provide a safer and more environmentally friendly way of providing light. As their website says, “This isn’t just a product. It’s a Social Movement.” Inspired by her experience in Kalinga where there was no electricity, her simple desire to help and address climate change got her the attention of US President Barack Obama and Alibaba chairman Jack Ma at the recent APEC CEO Summit.

How cool it must have been to be 31 and sharing the stage with two of the world’s most prominent? But what is even greater and cooler is people like Aisa who are doing their share in helping the world and that is what The Body Shop advocates. Let us all choose to Enrich and not Exploit our one and only planet Earth.

New Skincare Products

The Body Shop also showcased their two newest skincare developments: Drops of Light™ and Oils of Life™. For Drops of Light™, you will get brighter, glowing skin with its essential ingredient – Red Algae. Their 5‑in‑1 formula promises to "to improve healthy brightness, translucency, even tone, minimise the appearance of pores, while leaving skin feeling smooth and supple". The range includes a Pure Healthy Brightening Serum, a Pure Clarifying Foam Wash, a Pure Translucency Essense Lotion, and a Pure Healthy Brightening Day Cream.

For Oils of Life™, the hero product is the Oils of Life™ Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream. The Body Shop combined "3 precious seed oils with 7 essential oils for one powerful blend that aims to revitalize and repair your skin". The three seed oils are Black Cumin, Rosehip, and Camellia while the seven essential oils are Lavender, Rosemary Leaf, Geranium, Orange Peel, Lavandin, Marjoram Leaf, and Roman Camomile. They also shared 5 Ways to Sleep Yourself to Better Skin:

  1. Sleep on Satin – a silky smooth pillowcase helps prevent your face from getting creases
  2. Make Time to Meditate – destressing keeps the frown lines away
  3. Change Your Case – avoid bacteria build-up by changing your pillowcase often
  4. Tie Up Your Hair – keep the hair’s natural oils away from your face
  5. Stay Away From Salt – because salt before bedtime equals puffy eyes

We’re also loving The Body Shop Mask range as well as their Home Fragrances line. These all smell really good!

They also have a new brow product which we headed straight to and got to try out at the event! The Body Shop 3-in-1 Brow Definer comes in two shades and has a built-in brush to aid the brow pencil and highlighter duo. The pencil blends well and the added highlight sure made the brows look more polished.

Do you have any The Body Shop favorites? What would you like to do to help Enrich Not Exploit™?
