Fruity Beauty: Skincare with juicy and mouth-watering scents that I love

During my teen years in the early aughts, most of the scented beauty products like skincare and body care were typically floral-scented. You could say that it was the bouquet heyday. Fruity fragrances were often marketed towards kids and pre-teens, while gourmand scents had a not so low-key boudoir association. (Remember Jessica Simpson’s Dessert Beauty? Because I sure do!)

But thanks in no small part to J-beauty and K-beauty trends, fruit-scented toiletries are no longer relegated to the pambata section of supermarkets and drugstores. Here are five examples of refreshingly different skincare options that have captivated me with their fruity fragrances.

Jumiso All day Vitamin Clean & Mild Facial Cleanser (P782 / 150ml at Style Korean)

Cartoonish design aside, this low-lather gel formula is IMHO the most sosyal fruit-smelling item on this list. I have always been a fan of citrus scents, and the grapefruit on this one takes it to another level. It isn’t a candied version of grapefruit, but a zesty one that’ll wake you up in the morning.

blk Wondermelon Edit Skin-Hydrating Ultra-Fine Mist (P449 / 60g)

You’ll get a lot of mileage out of this compact mist as it is super versatile. It can serve as a toner, a pre-makeup skin prep mist, a setting spray, and a quick face freshener throughout the day. But it’s the “wondermelon sugar high” from the watermelon gum scent that brings me right back to my childhood and the special occasions of getting imported sweets.

Momo Puri Lotion.JPG

Momo Puri Moisture Lotion (P625 / 200ml).

The last time I was in Japan, this brand was all over the beauty section of their drugstores! And who wouldn’t be curious after seeing the minimalist yet cutesy packaging? Momo Puri products are all peach-themed, and this hydrating lotion takes on some floral, soapy notes as well. The peach ceramides also do our skin barrier a lot of good.

COMMONLABS. Vitamin C Brightening Gel Cream (70g)

Okay, this moisturizer is actually a lot of fun. You might be tempted to poke at the soft pudding texture for no apparent reason. But know that there’s 1,100ppm of pure Vitamin C in there as well as Vitamin C-rich Sea Buckthorn Water. And aside from the skin-brightening benefits, I’m here for the orange Jell-O scent that underscores its jiggly factor!

In Her Element Cocoa Lip Balm (P185 / 5g)

In my many years of using lip care products, this formula is the one that exceeded my expectations the most. For something without mineral oil, this managed to impressively lock in moisture all night long. But that’s just one aspect of the experience. The coconut scent is laced with chocolate and vanilla to give it a gourmand touch. Think coconut macaroons!

So where are you on the scented skincare spectrum? Have you stuck with floral fragrances, or do the fruity ones call out to you?
