Skincare Basics: How often and what should we use to wash our face?

Washing your face is an essential part of any skincare routine, as it helps to remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin, leaving it clean and refreshed. But how often and what should we use to wash our face? Today, we'll explore the best practices for washing your face to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

First, let's talk about how often you should wash your face. The general rule of thumb is to wash your face twice a day: once in the morning and once at night. This helps to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup that may have accumulated on the skin throughout the day or night. However, it's important to pay attention to your skin's needs and adjust your cleansing routine accordingly. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you may want to wash your face only once a day or every other day. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you may want to wash your face more frequently.

Now, let's talk about what to use to wash your face. It's important to choose a gentle, non-irritating cleanser that is suitable for your skin type. If you have dry or sensitive skin, you may want to choose a creamy or oil-based cleanser that is free from sulfates and other harsh ingredients. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you may want to choose a foaming or gel-based cleanser that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to help unclog pores and reduce acne.

In both instances, it’s best to use a low pH level skincare so as not to break your moisture barrier, which then causes irritation. Some of my favorite cleansers include the In Her Element Low pH Rose Radiant Cleanser (P495), Oxecure pH 5.5 Gentle Cleanser (P359), and the Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser (P1,000 for 60ml).

When it comes to washing your face, it's important to be gentle and avoid scrubbing or rubbing your skin too hard. Use tap water to wet your face and apply a small amount of cleanser to your hands. Gently massage the cleanser into your skin using circular motions, starting from your forehead and working your cheeks, down to the chin. Then use a soft towel to gently pat the skin dry.

Washing our faces is a simple and basic part of our skincare routine, but I hope you do all these steps to make sure you optimize it!
