Dazzle with Metal: J.Cat Beauty Flash Metal

The holidays are fast approaching and you know what that means - parties and get-togethers will be keeping your social calendar jam-packed and busy! For me, it’s the time of year when I whip out my bright and glittery makeup because it suits the festive holiday spirit. This time, I'll be putting down my usual lippies to give way to something more fun, like some metallic bling from J.Cat Beauty's Flash Metal Metallic Matte Lip (P329).

It promises to deliver a long-lasting, kiss-proof formula - sounds perfect for surviving countless buffets and all the smooches under the mistletoe, right? It's also supposed to be transfer-resistant with a waterproof formula that won't fade. If you like having options, this is available in 18 different metallic shades.

At an affordable price of just P329 each, I was curious to see if these lippies would live up to their promise. I also needed to know why it's described as "matte" considering that it's supposed to have a metallic finish. Confusing much?

I got to try 9 out of the 18 shades available. Upon opening the tube, I got a whiff of a mild, minty candy scent that I liked, but it doesn’t feel minty on the lips. I had always thought that metallic lippies would feel greasy on the lips but these tubes quickly proved me wrong. Once these lippies set they don’t budge AT ALL, which I think is the reason why they're called matte. I felt a slight tackiness but nothing too uncomfortable.

Opacity differed from shade to shade; some were well-pigmented while some were on the sheer side. They were generally pretty easy to apply but a few of the shades were patchy. I found that they lasted well until my next meal, and even then the flaking isn’t too bad or obvious because of the metallic finish. Thanks to the vitamin E included, these don’t feel uncomfortable nor drying even when I wear this the whole day. This won’t go easily, though! Like a lot of long-wearing lipsticks, I had to use an oil-based remover to take them off.

FM101 Peter Pan’s Breathe

FM102 Bolts of Thunder

FM101 Peter Pan’s Breathe (not a typo) is a warm, dark pink that applied well even with one layer.

FM102 Bolts of Thunder is a sheer gold. It’s a bit patchy and I had to apply three layers to make it look even. I’d say skip this unless you’re going to a costume party.

FM103 Hug with Sunny

FM106 Earthbound Explorer

FM103 Hug with Sunny is a strawberry red that’s perfect for lunchtime reunions.

FM106 Earthbound Explorer is an orangey copper color. This was the patchiest among the bunch.

FM108 Interstellar

FM110 Winter Cherry

FM108 Interstellar is a neutral pink that I wouldn’t mind using as an everyday lippie.

FM110 Winter Cherry is my absolute favorite of the bunch! This is a blue-toned red that looks almost satin-y. It looks very classy to me, and I can’t wait to use this for evening glam events!

FM111 Rainy Day in the Car

FM114 Magic Thunderbolt

FM116 Marvel-ous Character

FM111 Rainy Day in the Car looks like a mix of gold and silver tones that would go well with bronzy looks.

FM114 Magic Thunderbolt is a sheer, peachy nude that would look good when paired with strong eyes.

FM116 Marvel-ous Character is a bronze color that looks similar to Magic Thunderbolt on my lips, although not so much on my skin.

My top pick is definitely FM110 Winter Cherry while the runner-ups are FM101 Peter Pan’s Breathe and FM108 Interstellar. There are more unusual colors in the line such as blue, green, and purple. Sadly, I did not get to try them out so you’ll just have to check them out for yourself.

Overall, I’d recommend these because for a great price, you get long-lasting liquid lipsticks that are so different than the usual mattes. I will surely be sporting these for the holidays!
