If there are serums for your face, why not for hair? Here are some of Kérastase’s best formulas
The first time I tried Kérastase was in 2012, and it was love at first application. It was the Elixir Ultime that did it for me - I’ve tried serums similar to it before from the drugstore, but there was nothing like it in terms of how refined the texture is and how nice my hair is every time I use it. I’ve tried several Kérastase products since then but their hair serums are still my must-have from the brand. I always have a bottle for days when my hair needs extra shine and softness.
Funny story, when I met my husband James I introduced him to Kérastase. He loves their shampoos! He swears by them, especially the Oleo-Relax variant. He says he has never had hair this good in his life. Now, years later, he tells all of his friends that only Kérastase touches his hair. And it’s not a joke! He loves it so much he low-key panics when he’s about to run out.
Recently, I’ve been trying out a couple new Kérastase best-sellers that I think are really promising. You can find these and more at their Lazada Flagship Store. Here are some quick impressions!
Kérastase Discipline Oléo-Relax Hair Oil (P1,900 for 100ml). This is their classic oil serum formulation that’s designed for voluminous and unruly hair. I have very fine hair so I use oils sparingly and only when styling my hair, but James’s hair definitely falls under “voluminous” and “unruly”. He has incredibly thick hair that’s prone to going in all directions (he has anime hair in the morning). However, he hates mousse and gel products for styling his hair because it feels greasy and uncomfortable to him.
Enter the Oléo-Relax Hair Oil. I put it on him a couple of weeks ago and he’s like, why haven’t you let me try this before? When we met the new Chilean consul to the Philippines the other day, he begged me to put some on him, but since I was doing my makeup he did it himself. He put too much, lol, but his hair still looked great. I need to sit him down and teach him how to apply this!
Kérastase Genesis Anti Hair-Fall Fortifying Serum (P2,950 for 90ml). This is the brand’s BEST best-selling product apparently! And it sounds like its made for me. Katsy actually tried the Genesis line and loved the serum since it helped dramatically with her hair fall! I’ve only been using this one sporadically for a week so I can’t say yet if it will help with my weak scalp, but I can say that this doesn’t weigh my hair down and also helps to style it.
I don’t use many hair styling products due to my fine hair but this one passes my requirements - it adds a nice texture, shine, and scent to my hair without making it flat. Plus, it’s a scalp treatment! I need more time and consistent use with this so I will update you if ever it works.
Kérastase 8-Hour Magic Night Serum (P2,950 for 90ml). This one is for the both of us! Gosh, I can’t even remember the last time I used a leave-on conditioner. I find they break me out (as my hair touches my face while I sleep) and just make my hair flat and greasy. This one though just made my hair super soft after waking up, and helped quite a bit with my frizz problem. Love it and will continue with this. Should I let James use it also? Haha, kidding! He’s just so lazy when it comes to applying skincare at night so I haven’t gotten a chance to put this on him myself.
I love the concept of a nighttime hair serum. I mean, if we have skincare that’s best used at night for extra efficacy, why not hair care right?
Overall, as usual Kérastase doesn’t disappoint. Their products ARE a splurge, but if you are vain about your hair and have the budget to spare, I think you will be pretty happy with my options above. Let me know what you think!
