The Liese Creamy Bubble Color is probably the easiest hair dye to apply by yourself. Here’s how!

Part of our “new normal”-acquired skills is learning to DIY things that we usually outsource – manicures, pedicures, foot spas, and facials. I also know some who have braved cutting their own hair learning from TikTok tutorials. While I still leave the scissors to the professionals,  hair coloring at home is something that I have learned to embrace.

I’ve been coloring my hair at home (as long as It’s just an easy one-color job) for quite some time now actually. One brand I’ve tried with success is the Liese Creamy Bubble Color (P449 / box at Watsons and more). I’ve purchased it before since I saw it in an online ad and got so intrigued by how easy it is to use, even for those going DIY for the first time or for those who live alone with no one to help them to get product at the back part of the head. Last week, I got the chance to try it again since it’s included in the recent Project Vanity J-Beauty Kit

My default hair color usually is a light golden color. When I want to give my hair a longer rest from dyeing, I switch to a warmer brown to help blend my roots better and allow a longer gap between coloring jobs. Since the –ber months are kicking in, I thought I’d go slightly chocolatey this time with Liese’s Chestnut Brown

How to use it

The kit comes with an instructional sheet, Solution Bottle 1, Solution Bottle 2, 1 sachet of After-Color Treatment, and a pair of rubber gloves. One box is good for shoulder-length hair.  If your hair is long, you may need two or three boxes of the same shade.

The difference between the Creamy Bubble Color with other hair coloring kits  is that it’s a foam-type solution instead of the cream or lotion-like formulations we are used to.  I read all instructions in the sheet included in the kit.  As a safety precaution, I did a patch test first before proceeding with coloring.

Before I colored my hair, I changed into a colored top that I did not mind getting stained and used a towel that I didn’t mind getting stained as well.  To prep and protect my skin, I applied baby oil on my hairline and my ears.

After wearing protective gloves, I poured solution 1 (smaller bottle) to solution 2 (pump bottle). Instead of shaking it. The instructions state to turn the bottle containing both solutions 180 degrees around 5-10 times, to make sure that both solutions are mixed thoroughly.

To dispense the product on your (gloved) palm,  press the center of the applicator bottle and out comes the foam. The bubby foam comes out as white first, but as the color develops, you would see a hint of color on the foam.

As this product requires no sectioning, I applied first at the top of my head, then the back, and the sides. I made sure I got all sides covered and did a bit of sectioning to get to the underside of my hair so should my hair be up in a half- or full ponytail, the color job would be still even.

I left the color on for 25 minutes, before washing my hair and using the treatment included in the kit to condition my hair.

My hair color before coloring was a light ash brown with almost two inches of my natural hair color showing already. After coloring, it looked more even. Indoors, it looked darker and almost like my natural color but I saw the warm chestnut brown color being enhanced outdoors in daylight. I believe this particular shade is a very flattering shade for a lot of Asian complexions. Even without the sectioning skills of a professional salon, I was able to get the color evenly distributed.

To summarize, here’s what I like about it:

  1. No spills and drips – thanks to the light foam-type formula, I don’t need to worry about spills and drips on the bathroom floor. This Is great if you have pets and children at home. The color stays on your hair. I even had more than enough for my hair.

  2. Even application – no need for sectioning combs or pro skills – just apply the foam on the top, sides, and back. Massage to get the color evenly distributed. The back part is also the hardest to get even but I was able to get the back side just fine, and I was alone at home when I did this and had my cats stay in the bed room.

  3. No need for tools – The only thing I used was a clamp to help part my hair. No need for sectioning combs and brushes.

  4. Wide array of shades – You have many shades to choose from if Chestnut Brown is not your type. You can actually virtually try the colors before buying. Liese Philippines just launched their Liese Virtual Color Try-On Application where we could virtually test different shades and see which one suits us best. Log on to https://bit.ly/ LieseVirtualColorTry-On and see which one you like. There are so many shades to choose from!

  5. Mild after-color hair dye scent – Do you notice every time you color your hair you always have that after-hair color scent that lingers for days even if you’ve washed your hair? This is usual for most brands. Liese Creamy Bubble Color still has that scent, but it’s not as strong as compared to the others. For me, it only lingered for a couple of days, and even if it did, it wasn’t very strong.

I do wish they could increase the content of the after-color hair treatment included. I felt that it wasn’t enough to condition my hair after coloring, and I have short hair at that. I had to follow up with a deep conditioning hair treatment after from a tub.

Liese Philippines has stores in Lazada and Shopee. They are also available in leading department stores and drugstores. You can also follow them in Instagram to stay updated on their news.  Each coloring kit costs Php 449.
