Four Must-Try Makeup Trends from the MAC Trends Masterclass

There’s an age-old question that many of us who love makeup still ask ourselves all year round: What shades suit me best? That’s where MAC’s APAC Senior Artistry Manager Anton Zimin comes to the rescue. As part of the recently held MAC Trends Makeup Masterclass, Anton introduced four must-try trends and dished out essential tips and tricks to keep in mind before you even lift up that makeup brush. Of course, every masterclass has to have the perfect models and muses to demo on and who better than PPOP royalty themselves, BINI.

The brand with the hottest makeup looks and the nation’s hottest girl group is truly a match made in heaven. Before anything, Anton stressed the importance of creating the perfect base and that starts with proper skin care. MAC's Hyper Real skincare range is inspired by the K-beauty sphere and contains ingredients like niacinamide, to refine and boost brightness, as well as hyaluronic acid, to plump and hydrate.

“The holidays are the time to experiment”, said Anton as he introduced the first trend, Pearl Skin, with BINI Mikha and Gwen, which focused on a radiant and glowing complexion and sparkles galore. Don’t go overboard with the glitter though as Anton emphasized choosing just one area for glitter and keeping the rest of your face more on the subtle side. On all the BINI members, the MAC Studio Radiance foundation and concealer was used to give their skin that instantly flawless finish.

For Grunge, the next trend up, cool tone browns were the pick, and even the fan favorite MAC lip pencil in the shade Spice.

“This is inspired by the 90s grunge afterparty (scene)”, said Anton, and BINI Colet certainly looked it girl-worthy and rock chic as she strutted down the runway.

For a bit of Y2K nostalgia, and inspired by the glitz and glam of jewelry, BINI Aiah and Stacey marvelously modeled the Mixed Metals trend, sporting products such as MAC's Dazzleshadow Liquid in Beam Time, Colour Excess Gel Pencil Eyeliner in Va-Va-Violet, and the limited-edition Treasured Eye Shadow Palette in Rose to the Occasion that should definitely be on your Christmas wish list. It was a clash of ultra color and shine in the best way possible. Though take note, beauty besties: Less is more according to Anton when it comes to applying metallic-tinged shades.

BINI Colet and Sheena were to follow with the ‘juiciest’ trend of all this season, Cranberry Touch. Anton played with berry, maroon, and burgundy hues for this one, as you should, like the M·A·Cximal Sleek Satin lipstick in Amorous and MAC lip pencil in Beet. I grabbed the opportunity to ask afterwards what shades Anton would recommend for the holiday for varying Filipina skin tones, and he told me to look to the cranberry fruit as inspiration. It naturally comes in different shades that suit our wonderfully wide range of complexions. So, whether you’re fair-skinned, rocking that morena girl magic, or somewhere in between, the cranberry trend is definitely one to try this month (or any time, really).

And to spark even more joy for the holidays, MAC is launching its collection of M·A·Cximal satin lipsticks, Studio Radiance concealers, and holiday palettes that should be part of your makeup roster ASAP.
