Our top makeup and hair moments from the 2018 Golden Globes
Ah, award shows - perfect fodder for commentary, shade, and (the occasional) inspiration. This year’s red carpet saw a lot of corals and nudes, which are perfectly safe but are also kinda boring. So we’ve picked out a few standouts from the bunch so you can look at pretty people who’ve really. Gone. For. It.
My personal favorite: Lucy Boynton
Talk about unconventional eye shapes. Lucy Boynton sports an ombre double liner matched with spiky lashes, a brushed up brow, sheen-y coral lips, and a severe beach-wavy chop. It just works.
Saoirse Ronan
We saw a lot of oranges and corals on the runway, but I like how the freshness of Ronan’s tangerine lips contrast her icy blue eyes. Also, acne, but still cute!
Indya Moore
The word is luscious. The jerry curls are right (and rare), the lips are HUGE, and the glow is from within. Just yes.
Lupita Nyong’o
I don’t know a lot of people who can pull off colored mascara, but Ms. Nyong’o does it right by matching it to her dress and paring down the red lip to a hue closer to her skin tone. Also a moment: the hair.
Cody Fern
Another way to bring out blue eyes is by contrasting it with hues of brown (and vice versa for our brown-eyed friends). Cody Fern embraces the goth with a smoked out lower lash line paired with a similarly-toned, curled and volumized, hairdo.
Bailee Madison
Case in point: Bailee Madison’s ice blue eyeshadow perfectly matches the hues of her dress and brings out the brown in her eyes! Her ombre hair also matches the browns of her frock. Overall, very youthful, very cool.
Chris Messina and Lena Waithe
What’s up with comedians going platinum? Pete Davidson did this in 2018, and now Chris Messina and Lena Waithe! I mean, I love how going platinum blonde emphasizes skin tone, and both of them lewk sew gewd, ok? I also like Lena Waithe’s shaved brow - very sexy.
Maye Musk
I love an adventurous makeup moment! Maye Musk combines peacock shades with a reverse eyeliner??? See, people, it’s possible to do looks other than a no-makeup makeup look!
