What you need to know about semi-permanent, peel-off makeup
The craze over this new makeup innovation started over a year ago in Korea with a video showing two K-pop idols. Rainbow's Hyun-Young and Ji-Sook were sharing their tips on how to achieve the perfect red pout when they introduced a new product they called a lip tattoo.
After both girls raved over the Berrisom’s Oops! My Lip Tint Pack and the product started flying off the shelves, other K-beauty brands started releasing their own versions of peel-off makeup. Now, there's also one that you can use to tint your brows! While these products became popular because of Korean celebrity endorsement, they're building a following in other places as well. Why is that?
Peel-off makeup promises longevity.
The Berrisom Oops! My Lip Tint Pack (currently only available from online sellers) claims that it won’t budge no matter what. It promises to tint your lips for 12 hours, even if you eat, drink, or kiss! Many people find these claims to be true. But as someone who has tried this product before, this writer can tell you that it doesn’t work well with chapped, dry lips.
The instructions are to apply it on your lips, which looks like a thick, richly pigmented gloss. After waiting for 10-20 minutes, it look more translucent and shrink in size. This means that it has completely dried and is ready to be peeled off! Thing is, this stings really bad and won't stain evenly if your lips are cracked. If you plan to try this out (and it's honestly quite fun to do so!), make sure your lips are healthy, smooth and well-hydrated.
Meanwhile, the Etude House Tint My Brow Gel is fairly new to the market, having just been released late last year. You can find tons of “first impressions” about it on YouTube. It acts pretty much like a temporary tattoo for your brows!
You apply it like a brow mascara, wait for two hours or more to let the pigment tint the skin, and then peel it off. Instructions will tell you not to use cleanser or makeup remover on your brows for at least a day for it to last longer. While there are mixed opinions on this product, it does save you time from doing your brows every day. We might not dare to sleep with makeup on, but this is the sort of thing that can be applied before bed, peeled off in the morning, and literally deliver polished brows when we wake up.
These staining products are perfect for gals who hate retouching, sweat a lot, or have very oily brows. Only time will tell if this is just a trend which everyone will forget about in a few years. What do you think? Will you give it a try?
