Quick Rave: The Ready Set Glow Badass Lip Stain is my new favorite mask-proof stain
Ready Set Glow is the local makeup brand to watch. I love that it is adventurous with color and unafraid of coming out with fun formulations for the true makeup fan. They’ve been releasing new products non-stop since 2020 from eyebrow cushions to jewel-toned eyeliner, and most recently they came out with a mask-proof lip color. Are you looking for one right now? This may be the one!
The Ready Set Glow Badass Lip Stain (P396 at readysetglow.ph) is a stain that promises you can go day to night without touching up. It has a glossy finish initially but dries down as a satin-y color. This stain feels more like a buttery, super smooth gel so unlike most lip stains it doesn’t feel drying even when I skip lip balm. It is enriched with aloe vera and green tea for extra lip nourishing points. It’s scent and flavor-free.
So, how accurate is their claim that you don’t need to touch up? It depends on the shade! There are four available:
Sugar Lips, a medium pink that’s the perfect MLBB. It’s not too pink nor is it brown. This type of color is hard to find in a lip stain line, precisely because the pigments used for this shade don’t quite stain.
Lip Cookie, a loud magenta pink that’s totally up my alley. I love that it’s not neon or deep. This stains on me for up to eight hours!
Ninja Kiss, a warm red. This stains really well too, same as Lip Cookie.
DFK Badass, a deep bluish red. This stains the most and the longest out of the four. I can go on ten hours of this with a strong (albeit faded stain) even with eating and drinking.
I love all the shades. They don’t look like “toy” colors, you know what I mean? Usually affordable lip stains tend to go over-the-top neon or in the case of other brands, a uniform brown, but these RSG tints have a good variety and don’t look all the same. They tint the lips evenly on the top and bottom.
Only the shade Sugar Lips does not stain heavily. I get maybe two to three hours if I do a double layer, but it is certainly nowhere near the level of the other three in terms of pigmentation and staying power. It’s the prettiest though! I still go for it when I just want a subtle color.
It’s important to note that these tints look lipstick-solid only with the full layer on, freshly applied. But the gel “seal” breaks when you drink water or even just lick your lips. You’ll feel it come off. Then you’ll be left with a softer stain and zero texture which makes it transfer-proof.
In my lip swatches, I applied only a single layer; that’s how solid it looks. Here’s what Lip Cookie looks like after I (aggressively, with a balm remover) removed the top layer. Still, you can see that it still has fantastic color pay-off.
TIP: always apply lip stain on bare lips to get the max staining effect. Apply lip balm AFTER, once the stain is completely dry and the color has seeped into the lips.
Overall, the Ready Set Glow Badass Lip Stain is a great buy if you want a mask-proof, food-proof tint at an affordable price. They’ve been my default color for casual days out since I don’t always wear a full lipstick these days. They’re on sale at the moment for P316! Get a shade or two. ;)
