She Did It! A full review + swatches of Kris Bernal’s new liquid lipsticks

Celebrity makeup lines are a dime-a-dozen these days. And while the next actress/singer/influencer to announce a collab or launch their own brand might not be so surprising anymore, the intrigue is still there. What passes a star’s standard of quality? How do they curate a collection? How involved are they really in the development process? Only one way to find out!

GMA artist Kris Bernal is the latest local celeb to officially get into the business of beauty with the launch of She Cosmetics. Kris loves a good liquid lipstick, so focusing her efforts on acing the formula of her flagship product was of utmost importance. After several months of personally testing prototypes, she finally introduced her fab five!

SHE knows how to make a statement! Packaged in super-shiny rose gold tubes, the brand’s aesthetics definitely stand out. Small windows on the sides of the tubes show off the colors within, which swipe true-to-tube. While the shade names are printed on the tubes, it can be quite confusing when you own several shades and have to grab one in a hurry. But overall, I like the look.

I was fully expecting the standard doe foot applicator and was surprised to see a wide-ish teardrop shape instead. The applicator tends to pick up a lot of product, so if you are the type who fully takes off the excess, you’ll be scraping/blotting off a fair amount of liquid lipstick. Other than that, I find the shape easy to work with and I am able to fill in my lips quickly. Plus, the angle and shape of the applicator help me get to the edges without making a mess of things.

Go Girl!

Not gonna lie, Go Girl! is my go-to out of all five shades. It is an elegant-looking medium fuchsia that comes across as feminine and grown-up. I don’t regularly wear red, so this is an excellent bold lip alternative.

She Lovin’ It

She Lovin’ It is a slightly coral-pink nude. I feel like it has a milky, pastel tone that washes out my pale skin, so more pronounced eye makeup creates a more balanced look.

Off She Goes

Off She Goes is a caramel-tinted warm nude that pleasantly surprised me. Initially, I thought the color would better suit morenas, but it’s actually pretty versatile. It looks especially gorgeous when paired with a K-beauty inspired peachy or orange eye.

So She-ic

So She-ic is the nod to grunge. The medium cinnamon brown has a lot of warmth and character to it, allowing for a bolder look without going vampy.

She’s On Fire

Lastly, She’s On Fire is as statement-making as its name suggests. It is a medium-toned true red worthy of a Hollywood star! This is the only one of the collection that had feathering at the edges, so I recommend using a lip liner to keep your lines crisp.

All shades are a satiny matte that have a slight sheen close up. The formula is light on the pout, and I believe that the addition of peppermint oil contributes to that refreshing feeling. It is also supposed to have a plumping effect, though I haven’t noticed any obvious lip plumping apart from the colors making my lips look fuller.

Pigmentation is excellent, creating opaque color in 1 to 2 swipes. The wear is also comfortable, with the formula only starting to dry out after three hours. The lipsticks also have a scent that brings to mind a blend of crushed rose petals and peppermint. It’s the sort of scent you’d get out of a lip balm and isn’t overpowering.

At just P399 a pop, the quality of the lipstick formula, available shades, and sleek packaging are quite nice for the price!. She Cosmetics is available in Shopee, Posh Nails, and select SM Beauty/Watsons branches. You can also place an order via the She Cosmetics website.
