Spotlight Cosmetics: A new makeup line under P500 for Filipinas who want to create pro looks

Product photography by Perkin Gotohio

There’s a new local makeup line in town called Spotlight and I’m here to walk you through it! This is a pretty extensive line, which is great, because it even has some interesting eye makeup formulations. Everything is under P500 so it’s quite affordable. Still, this is targeted for those looking to level up their makeup collection as it has that pro MUA vibe to it (at least to me). You can check it out in Lazada and Shopee online.

Let’s see what Spotlight has to offer!

In the face category, there are three items: the Primetime Liquid Foundation (P495 / 4 shades), Primetime Pressed Powder (P295/ 3 shades), and the Primetime 2-way Powder Foundation (P395/ 4 shades). I was able to swatch the Primetime Liquid Foundation and it was indeed quite light, with a watery texture! It reminds me of the MAC Face & Body Foundation actually, but with a bit more coverage. Unfortunately the shade I got is too light for me so I wasn’t able to use it in this shoot.

I am wearing here the 2-way Powder Foundation. It’s not quite a full coverage foundation (at least when applied dry) but it gave my skin a matte, petal-y finish. I am using the shade Radiant Oat, which is a good match for me. I’m looking forward to more shades here, because four shades as we all know is quite limited!

Spotlight has a LOT of offerings for the lips. There’s a Rising Star Lip Balm (P195), a Superstar Lip Crayon (P295), Superstar Creamy Lips (P295), Superstar Matte Lips (P295), and Superstar Liquid Lips (P295). Each lip line has 4-6 shades! I have with me the Matte Lips in Sultry Siren. This formula is quite matte, but as with most modern mattes, it’s thin on the lips and quite flexible as well as non-drying. Sultry Siren looks like a deep berry red on me and as you can see in my first FOTD above, it applied beautifully and evenly.

There’s also the Spotlight Rising Star Lip & Cheek Paint (P295), which looks like the Peripera lip tint and feels like it too! It’s a bit mousse-y, and tints the lips and cheeks nicely. I’m wearing Blushing Fairy on my lips and cheeks in this photo - it’s so pretty! It’s a delicate salmon pink that tints the lips and would be nice to wear under a mask as it doesn’t have a lot of texture to rub off.

And now, to the most exciting bit for me! You guys know I love my eye makeup, right? Even more so now that we’re always in a mask. I make a bit of a fuss when I go out these days since it’s not very often, so I might as well look good!

In this look I created, I’m wearing the Scene Stealer Gel Eyeshadow (P295). This is a bouncy gel color that feels a little bit like jelly ace, haha. I applied the shade Sassy Bronze as a base - it’s quite pigmented, see the swatch! - then I used the Spotlight Scene Stealer Liquid Eyeshadow (295) in Charming Pink as my crease color as well as the cute spots around the eyes. This sets quite solid, like liquid lipstick, so I expect it to be water-resistant.

Speaking of water-resistant - for definition, I lined my eyes with the Showstopper Liquid Eyeliner (P295). This is SUPER black, albeit with a slight glossy finish, and is fairly hard to wash off. As you can see it creates a pretty epic cat eye! The felt tip overall was easy to work with, but I feel like the tip dries too easily as it runs out of product. So my advice is to make sure that the entire felt tip application is “loaded” with product so you don’t run out of smooth lines.

I also used the Megahit Eyebrow Pen (P295) to define my brows here. I find it a bit too pigmented off the bat but it was easy to blend in as long as I work fast. This sets solid, so you have a small window of time to make sure all the strokes are in the right place before the final blend.

Last but not the least, Spotlight has this Scene Stealer 8-in-1 Eye Palette (P495). I find this clever, as it has all the shades one might need for a full eye look, nose/face contour, and some cheekbone highlighting. The shades can be used as eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, even eyeliner with some water! This is a handy palette to have if you’re just building up a more intentional makeup collection, I feel. The shades are pigmented and effortless to blend. I appreciate that the pans are a bit larger than normal so I can use a variety of brushes with it.

Overall, Spotlight Cosmetics has a great freshman lineup. I don’t think there’s an affordable local brand that’s perfect for budding new makeup artists and even hobbyists who may not have a lot of budget yet to invest in their kit. The packaging looks good for the price too. I do wish that they will expand their shade selection for their face bases further, so hoping that’s in the works down the line.
