Six guys share what’s inside their makeup kits + their holy grail beauty finds
If you clicked on this then, like me, you probably enjoy looking through someone’s kikay kit. Some people might call it nosy; I call it curiosity! After all, isn’t it fun to discover someone’s favorite products through their makeup bags? It’s also quite exciting when you find out that someone owns a product you also love.
I always ask my girl friends if I could go through their makeup bags. In addition to learning what products they currently use, I also get to discover their different takes on beauty. However, as a guy who wears makeup, it never occurred to me to ask my guy friends about their makeup bags. Well, that ends now!
When I asked Johanne if he could share the contents of his makeup bag with me, he instantly agreed. Juggling many hats, Johanne told me how he just wants his makeup to be as natural possible. He wears makeup to enhance his skin and to give him an extra boost of confidence. His kit features reliable basics like the the Revlon Colorstay Foundation and Fit Me Powder. He also has a Happy Skin palette with two multi-purpose shades that can do brows, eyeshadow, and contouring!
It took me by surprise when I found out that Louiedel wears makeup. A few years ago, I asked him about his skincare routine. After a quick rundown of his skincare products, he started talking about his favorite base, the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation. Opting for the “no makeup” makeup look every single time, Louiedel is always on the hunt for products to enhance his skin. You can see that he invested in his base makeup to make sure it’s long-wearing and complexion-perfecting!
Although not a fan of makeup in general, Edgar turns to makeup to look more presentable. Since he is a teacher and he does a bit of hosting on the side, he applies a layer of the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation before facing his crowd.
Using only foundation, Edgar shared that he doesn’t need a makeup bag. He just throws it in whatever bag he carries for the day. It suddenly made me think of a question. What is the one makeup product you cannot leave the house without? For me, it’s lipstick!
As a law student, Jonathan sleeps late on most days so he relies on makeup to look fresh in class. In addition, he loves to contour to create the illusion of a slimmer face. Jonathan is a huge fan of Kim Kardashian, especially since they are both taking up law, which is why I was not surprised when I saw that he has the KKW Beauty Nude Crème Lipsticks. Hmm, is there a makeup product you bought because of a celebrity you admire?
Joses had to clarify whether to share all of his makeup or just the makeup he brings everywhere. A problem with having a lot of product is deciding what to include in your everyday makeup bag. Since Joses is all about contours and blushes, he always has to make room for brushes in his makeup bag. You can tell that he loves the “glass skin” effect, which he achieves with the Fenty concealer, MAC Fix foundation (a classic), and a flattering blush.
Of course, I have to share what’s inside my own makeup bag as well! As you can see, I like to have a full face of makeup products with me all the time. In addition to the reasons shared by my friends, I also wear makeup to express how I feel and to transform my look. I prefer having the option to go natural or bold, which is why I have a lot of lipsticks in my makeup bag. Come on, I know you understand. You have to have your nudes, browns, pinks, and reds! Bonus points for oranges and purples.
Seeing the makeup bags of my friends proves that there is no perfect example of what’s inside a guy’s kikay kit. Like women, guys wear makeup for different reasons. Every single reason is valid, and there are products of all types to cater to that.
There used to be expectations that if a guy wears makeup, he only wears complexion products. For someone who loves lipstick, I can’t imagine myself without it! Thankfully, it’s 2020, and more and more guys are feeling comfortable about wearing makeup and sharing the products they have in their bags. All you have to do is ask them.
