It's my first time to try a shampoo bar. Was the Zenutrients Shampoo Bar worth the switch?
Shampoo bars have been in the market for years. Lush released their first shampoo bar in 1988 and has produced a wide range of varieties to cater to different hair needs since then. Local brands like Zenutrients, Human Heart Nature, and SMEs like Beach Born, Ecobar, and Rinse & Repeat have their own versions too. But more than the availability in the market, the human drive towards becoming more environmentally conscious has brought these hair cleansing soaps on to a different level. Now, shampoo bars are no longer confined to a small niche as more and more people are ditching traditional shampoo bottles and sachets for it.
Switching to an entirely new practice - trying a shampoo bar for the first time that is - required a lot of adjustment for me. I researched a lot! Since Zenutrients is one of my trusted brands for cruelty-free and natural products that really work, the shampoo bar virgin in me went with the new Zenutrients Coco Honey Moisturizing Shampoo Bar (Php 279 / 70g) for my first try with solid shampoos.
The Zenutrients Moisturizing Shampoo Bar is wrapped in paper and comes in a biodegradable box. It is great for travel as it is small and lightweight, and has no potential for spillage.
It is very convenient to use - just grab and lather up! However, since it is technically a soap, it has a tendency to melt when not stored properly. In my case, I put it in a mesh bag (I got this one from Shopee for just Php 5!) to hang it to dry. I find that storing it this way allows me to use the shampoo bar up to its littlest bit and for far longer even with regular use.
Surprisingly, this lathers well on my hair, just like how a regular shampoo does, and my hair feels really clean after. Also, this has Coco Honey (from the tree, not the bee), Coconut, and Shea Butter to boost hair moisture. True enough, my hair really does feel soft and moisturized when I use it, and it looks healthy and tame even when air dried. My scalp does not flake as much either!
But what I loved most about using the Zenutrients Coco Honey Moisturizing Shampoo Bar is how my hair looks straighter and oilier, in a good way, after use. With regular shampoo, my hair feels dry and dull as most tend to strip the natural oils in the hair and scalp. The natural oils of this shampoo bar weigh down my strands and make it look shinier.
However, this can be a drawback to those with overly thick hair as these oils can also make the hair look greasy after a while. If you have thin hair, this might make you lose volume. Don’t worry as this build up can easily be cleansed once a week with clarifying shampoo or if you really want to go all natural, a weekly vinegar rinse should do the trick.
I like that this shampoo bar can be used even by kids. My 4-year old daughter is also using the Zenutrients Moisturizing Shampoo Bar and it has relieved her dry, itchy scalp. Yep, we already bid goodbye to kids’ shampoos!
I may still need to try out more and it may take me a while to find the best one, but my experience with Zenutrients Coco Honey Moisturizing Shampoo Bar was so pleasant that it served as solid proof (pun intended!) that the shift was a great move.
