Review + Swatches: The Careline Fruity Lip Oil Banks On Nostalgia (And It Works)

This story is brought to you by Careline / Product photography by Perkin Gotohio

I’m a millennial, so I’m old enough to know that age is a funny thing. You don’t sense it creeping up on you, slowly, like the long shadows cast by the setting sun, until you’re hit by a half-forgotten childhood memory. When you’re younger, nothing is significant; when you’re older, everything that has passed is all significance. I’m in a contemplative mood because I’ve been testing out the Careline Fruity Lip Oil (P245 at Shopee) and its scent reminds me of hot summer days with a few coins in my pocket as a child, buying ice candy from the sari-sari store, and sucking on it gleefully with my cousins by the side of the road. We’re sticky and stained by the end of it, smelling like cheap sugar and happiness.

Now, if you choose the right ice candy color and flavor, you might just get a lip stain after the snack. That’s what the Candy Fruity Lip Oil delivers - a pretty stain that is even on both the upper and lower lips. It leaves a glossy finish with high shine, so lips look jucier and plumper. It’s a moisturizing formula so there’s no need to use a lip balm too! I like that the formula isn’t tacky and thick. It’s pretty comfortable as you wear it for hours.

There are three variants available. Fo Shizzle is the one that looks pinkish in the tube; it is strawberry-scented, and is a sheer pink. Get this one if you’re just looking for a hint of color! So Fetch! is the one that is greenish with an apple scent, and it delivers a strong pink stain. It might look a bit neon when swatched on the hand but it looks perfect on the lips. Finally, That’s Hot! (the purplish one in the tube) has a grape scent and delivers a pink-purple stain. That’s Hot! and So Fetch! looks almost similar on the lips except the latter just has a slightly more purple hue and is slightly less intense.

The packaging is a rollerball tube which is great for convenience and nostalgia, but of course the tip does roll back so hygiene is an issue. If you’re the only one using it though, the preservative system in the formula should be enough to keep it bacteria-free. Also make sure to always cap it tightly to prevent leaks on the side of the cap.

Overall, I like the Careline Fruity Lip Oil because of the beautiful color render on my lips, the shine, the moisture, and of course, the nostalgic scent. It’s a good find for only P245! This slots into my life as a lip tint for the gym or the grocery since it stains really well, so I don’t need to retouch for hours.
