Review + Swatches of The Disney Cruella Collection by MAC
Product photography by Perkin Gotohio
It’s hard not to think of Cruella De Vil when the subject of female villains comes up, more so when it’s specifically about their beauty. Her look - black-and-white hair paired with a red lip - is an iconic one. This is why when Disney announced their live-action film Cruella, it’s no surprise that MAC Cosmetics collaborated with them to celebrate the rebellious, edgy, and glamorous villain.
The Disney Cruella Collection by MAC features an 8-pan eyeshadow palette, a dual-ended eyeliner pencil, a powder blush duo, three matte liquid lipsticks, and three matte lipsticks. Let’s go straight into the review, shall we?
Before talking about the individual pieces in the collection, let’s discuss the packaging. For this limited edition collection, in true Cruella fashion, the packaging highlights the villain’s iconic look with its black, white, and red color palette. The two-toned packaging with the red typography is just stunning.
Cruella To Be Kind Eyeshadow Palette (P2,750/5g)
Having four mattes, three frosts, and one satin eyeshadow, this palette has it all. I really enjoy how the palette can take you from day to night. In terms of application, I had no issues with the eyeshadows. They aren’t too powdery, and they blended nicely. My favorite part about the palette is its innovative magnetic design, which lets you break it down into two quads and four duos, each capable of standing on its own.
Dual-Ended Pro Longwear Eyeliner (P1,500/1g)
This convenient eyeliner comes in two shades - De-Vinyl (black) on one end and Tightly Laced (white) on the other. Both colors are creamy, opaque, and easy to work with. Claiming to be transfer-proof and water-resistant, it also sets really nicely. I’ve worn this on both eyelids and waterlines for about 4 hours, and it didn’t budge. It needs to be mentioned that I just stayed inside my room the whole time, though.
Powder Blush Duo (P1,675/10g)
I’ll admit, I wasn’t too excited when I first saw the blush duo in the pan. I usually stay away from bright pinks, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it on my cheeks. Reminder: Don’t judge a blush by how it looks in the pan. Tickled Punk is a bright pink blush that has subtle shimmer, while Cruel-La Intentions is a neutral highlighter. You can layer the highlighter on top of the blush or swirl both colors together.
Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (P1,500/5ml)
The collection has three shades - Queen of Mean (brownie pink-neutral), Mayhemmed (red), and Glamarchy (blood red). My favorite part about the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour is the pointed applicator, which makes it relatively easy to apply. Since its a retro matte, the formula can a bit drying, especially if you layer it too much. I suggest starting with a thin layer and just build accordingly, if necessary. Oh, you can also apply lip balm underneath to prep your lips.
Matte Lipstick (P1,150/3g)
I love MAC’s matte lipsticks so it’s no surprise that I love the three lipsticks in this collection. Sweet-N-Vicious is a light pink; De Vil in the Details is a bright red, and Camden Caper is a blood red. Personally, I don’t find the matte lipsticks drying but you can always apply a lip balm underneath if you like.
Overall thoughts
I love this collection so much because there are so many possible looks to do with it. The pieces are really versatile, which is why I was able to do three different looks. Also, the colors make me so excited to experiment with bold eye looks and lips. It makes sense that the powder blush duo is a neutral pink when swirled together because it just pairs beautifully with the eyeshadows and lip colors. Finally, from the packaging to the fun shade names, the Disney Cruella Collection by MAC is a limited edition collection you shouldn’t miss.
If I have to choose only 3 pieces to keep in my collection, it would be the Cruella To Be Kind Eyeshadow Palette, Powder Blush Duo, and Camden Caper matte lipstick. Phew, that was hard.
