A Deep Dive Into Laneige’s NEO Line: The Foundation, Cushion, And New Powder

Laneige has always been at the forefront of cushion makeup, and I've been using their cushion since 2015. So, when they reformulated their best-seller in 2021, I was naturally curious and immediately bought one. I even reviewed it here on PV as part of my search for mask-proof makeup! Since then, the brand has introduced changes to the cushion formula and expanded the NEO lineup to include a liquid foundation, the innovative NEO Dot, and most recently, a blurring finishing powder. Now, let's delve into the current NEO line and explore some tips on how to use these products effectively.

Laneige Neo Foundation (P2,100)

At the iF Design Award 2022, the Laneige NEO Foundation clinched victory in the Packaging category. Concealed within this award-winning bottle lies Amorepacific's pioneering Blue Light Protection Foundation. This featherweight base guarantees no oxidation and clear base shades, all courtesy of the cutting-edge Water Color Solution Technology. Much like the Neo Cushion, it is available in both Matte and Glow variants.

Upon its debut, the Matte edition soared to the top spot at Olive Young. Offering a semi-matte finish and an impressive 48-hour long-lasting coverage, it reigns supreme. Conversely, the Glow version imparts a satin finish and a 24-hour moisturizing effect. It is recommended to use the foundation for a sophisticated look, or at the start of the day before touching up with the cushion.

I use the Laneige NEO Foundation Glow in the shade 25N1 and I like it. The liquid foundation blends easily and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin which is really my preference. It also maintains the shade throughout the day. In the collage above, I’ve been wearing the NEO Foundation for almost nine hours and it barely wore off even as I went to multiple locations and in and out of air-conditioning. I just wish it had a bit more of a glow but it does give my skin a healthy-looking finish so I’m okay with that.

Laneige Neo Cushion (P2,350)

Several noteworthy enhancements have been introduced to this cushion, namely Light Fit, Light On, and NEO Dot. This cushion leverages a 2-Step Seamless Technology, resulting in finer particles that deliver a Light Fit, characterized by a thin and flawlessly blended coverage. To achieve a radiant glow from within, skincare ingredients for hydration, firming, and antioxidation have been infused, alongside Corn Mint Extract for oil control in the Matte variation, and Vitamin C and Niacinamide for brightening in the Glow version.

The NEO Dot is a physical addition to the cushion. It's a literal dot meant to keep the cushion puff from escaping from the compact, sticking out, or going missing. I can see it being extremely helpful especially when retouching outside as recommended by Laneige. This is my favorite out of the three as the cushion format is extremely convenient. Running late? Just use the cushion in the car! Out of town trip? The packaging travels well with no spills and an included applicator.

The shades for the Neo Cushion and Foundation are #ShadeTwins. If you want to switch to either one or get both products, it's now easier to find the shade for you. It is very similar, though the Foundation is a bit brighter compared to the Cushion. If you’re still using the old version though, it would be best to get shade-matched before getting the newer formula as I found my old one to be significantly lighter than the new 25N1. The 25N1 matches me better though, practically an exact match, and I’m pretty happy about it.

Laneige NEO Essential Blurring Finish Powder (P1,300)

This is the latest addition to the NEO family is meant to be used with the NEO Cushion and the NEO Foundation. It's a fine powder that provides a soft matte finish and a blurring effect. It also has the "first ever patented silicon mesh with cuts" that helps in dispensing just the right amount of product as well as preventing spillage when carrying it in a bag. They do warn that pressing too hard with the accompanying vegan puff may result in getting too much powder.

The Laneige NEO Essential Blurring Finish Powder is a solid performer for me. The packaging is clever and the puff applies the product quite well. It is super mattifying though so if you have dry skin like mine or prefer a glowy look, it will be best to apply the powder in certain areas only – T-zone, sides of the nose, and a bit under the eyes. I find that when I do this, my makeup lasts for hours. And as the holiday season approaches, a long-lasting makeup look is always a good thing.
