Love Local: New Filipino indie makeup brands to obsess over

When you compare the state of the makeup manufacturing industry in the Philippines with other Asian countries like Japan and Korea, we’re pretty far behind. It doesn’t mean we’re standing still, though.

Apart from old favorites that you see in drugstores (Ever Bilena, Fashion 21 and the newly rebranded F&S) and the fun new ventures that have emerged (Happy Skin and Pink Sugar), small entrepreneurs have also started trying their hand at creating cosmetics that fit the Filipina lifestyle. Below are some of the indie brands that deserve your attention!

Sooper Beaute

This indie brand started with skincare products before launching cosmetics. They have foundations, BB creams, lip products, and even a contouring kit! The products promise to not only make you look good but also help your skin in the long run as they are all enriched with vitamins.

Try their best-selling Tinte Fluid Foundation (Php550). It has Tsubaki oil that provides hydration, and green tea extract, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid for combating the signs of aging.

Sooper Beaute is currently only available online. They’re on Instagram and Facebook.

Nature Essentials

Nature Essentials also had its start as a provider of natural skin care products. Since branching out to cosmetics last year, the brand has already come out with a good selection of offerings. They have foundations, concealers, loose setting powders, lip balms, cheek and lip mousses, cheek and lip creams, eyebrow powders, and lipsticks! They also have makeup brushes which have handles made from bamboo.

If you’re looking to try a product from the brand, their Velvet Lip Creme Lipsticks (P799) are a good place to start. They've been getting great reviews!

Nature Essentials can be found online on Instagram and Facebook. They have also stores in Fisher Mall and inside Cinderella in Glorietta.

Rucy’s Vanity

This Filipino-owned brand offers Korean products - the ingredients are sourced from Korea and made there - at very low prices. And we mean, very low prices. Their Pearl Foundation and Pearl BB cream retail for only P70 each! And while most indie makeup brands in the market right now tend to focus on bases and lip products, Rucy’s Vanity prides itself over its eye products. Their Liquid Eyeliner (P160) has been getting a lot of rave reviews, so it’s definitely worth checking out. Nail polish enthusiasts will also be happy to learn that the brand offers lacquers in fun, vibrant colors.

You can get a hold of Rucy’s Vanity products via their website and Facebook page.

Natura Organics

In terms of shade selection for foundation, Natura Organics trumps other indie brands. They currently offer five shade options for their Healthy Skin Foundation SPF60 PA+++(P566): three for warm undertones and two for cool undertones. Their Acne Dots Concealer SPF 60 PA++++(P399) reigns supreme as well, with a generous 12g of product. Apart from the promise of nourishing your skin, Natura Organics also says their products are gluten-free and vegan.

Find them on Instagram and on Facebook.

Krave Minerale Cosmeceuticals

Krave has been in the game for quite some time now, and they’re still going at it. Apart from the skincare products they became known for, the brand now carries a small line of cosmetics. They offer a unique kind of BB cream called BCOC (blemish correct and oil control) Liquid Concealer (Php495), which promises flawless, hydrated complexion. They also carry a variety of lip products in yummy colors.

You can find Krave on Facebook.

What we have now looks promising, right? Have you heard of or tried products from these brands before? What other local indie makeup brands would you like to see on Project Vanity?
