Swatches + full review: Everything you need to know about Lucky Beauty Cosmetics

Celebrity Andrea Brillantes has always wanted to be the CEO of her own cosmetics brand. She wanted her vision to be front and center and come up with products that are representative of her own beauty routine and ultra feminine vibe. And so Lucky Beauty was born. “Makeup is a wearable lucky charm,” Andrea says. For her, it helps her feel more confident and in control of her fate.

And I know you’re thinking: yeah, yet another celebrity beauty brand. But there’s a big difference here: Andrea sought the help of two other local beauty companies to bring her ideas to reality. The combined experience and of course Andrea’s star pull is a smart formula for success, and this clearly shows in the quality of Lucky Beauty’s freshman release now available in Shopee and Lazada.

So is the makeup actually good? There’s a lot of ground to cover here - let’s get to it!

The initial release has everything you need for a quick, fresh look. There’s foundation, concealer, lip and cheek cream, glossy lip stain, highlighter, and brow gel. The shade selection is pretty intensive, with nine shades each for the bases and cream makeup, six shades for the lip stain, and four for the highlighter powders. The price range is at an affordable P349 to P549, with the powder foundation being the most expensive.

I’ve been testing these products almost daily for a week, so here are my honest thoughts per product.

The Lucky Beauty Blush & Lip Cream (P349 for 8g) is the most viral one so far out of all the releases. Filipinos do love their multi-purpose colors! The formula comes in a dome shape for easy application and has an ultra creamy yet thin texture. It blends out to a nice powdery finish with either a finger or a brush. These are nice on the lips, cheeks, and eyelids.

The three shades I have with me - Crush, Muse, and Dare - are intensely pigmented, so much so that you have to diffuse them on the back of your hand first before placing them on the cheeks. Use a tiny amount lang. Then, blend as if your life depends on it! They don’t set immediately so there’s a lot of time to work them in, resulting in a smooth flush.

Staying power is fantastic. I’ve worn these for as long as six hours and there’s still a good amount of color left even with fading. For best results, use a setting spray on top to keep it together, but by itself it’s good for 3-4 hours easy.

Dare is a fabulous berry purple color that at first I didn’t like, but now I do! It looks nice and fresh on my medium warm skintone.

Verdict: at P349 for a whopping 8 grams a pot, it’s totally worth it!

My next favorite pick is the Serum Concealer (P349 for 5ml). This is a lightweight, serum type concealer that has light to medium coverage. It’s designed for the under eyes, but it works really well for even my super dark blemishes. I just do a couple layers if I want a lot more coverage but one is usually quite enough. Just make sure to use a generous amount.

I’ve worn this to the gym and it doesn’t slide off even with a lot of sweat, so that’s a huge thing for me! I don’t even need setting spray. Of course it will transfer - almost all bases do - but it’s manageable as it does grip the skin nicely.

I found my perfect shade match in Tawny, although Henna works well too. Both blend out invisibly onto my skin.

I do wish that the brush is more of a paddle type doe foot application as opposed to the slender one it has now, but it’s fine enough. I would also gladly pay more for more product per tube as 5ml for such a large tube can look misleading - the lip stain has almost the same size tube and you get 8ml in that.

Otherwise, fantastic product that I will buy when I run out!

Third in my top list is the Dewy Lip Stain (P299 for 8ml). I love these juicy, glossy stains that moisturize the lips and deposit even color in one layer. Saves so much time mixing products, really. These are six shades with this formula, and I got Chance, a sort of nudey sienna, and Felice, something like a muted berry. These have made it into my daily lip color picks! Super sulit for P299 at 8ml. I would love to get the other colors too except I have way too many lip products already.

Fourth in my list is the Skin Blur Powder Foundation (P549 for 8g). This has a beautiful velvet finish that evens out the skin with medium coverage - just the Serum Concealer + this powder is perfect for an everyday base for me. The foundation doesn’t quite grip the skin so expect fading during the day, but this is easy to fix with your choice of primer or setting spray. It’s definitely good for four hours at least just by itself, with minimal retouch.

My perfect shade match is Sand, although Dune works for me too! There are nine shades available with this formula. I must say, the packaging feels nice and premium. There’s a sponge on the lower level of the compact for retouching; I personally prefer a brush for application.

Next in my list is the Pressed Highlighter (P499 for 3g). This is the most expensive per gram in the entire Lucky Beauty line. The packaging is pretty and has a good tactile feel with its matte finish, but it is small as the product is just 3 grams total. There are four shades available. The ones I have, Moonstone and Rose Quartz, are pigmented and has fine shimmer. They’re nice, but IMHO nothing to write home about.

Last in my list is the Brow Grip in Clear (P299 for 8ml). I was most excited about this because the clear brow mascara I’m currently using is quite expensive, and I was looking for a cheaper alternative. The silicone brush application is soft and has a stubby comb on one side and a flat side for laminating. I like the brush. But it picks up wayyyyy too much product that my brows end up covered with goo even though I wipe the applicator on the rim as best as I could.

The gel formula itself volumizes brows nicely and it does stick the hairs down. It’s not a bad formula. But the application process for me is just not working out.

Whew! This article is now a novel! To summarize: get the Blush & Lip Cream, Serum Concealer, Dewy Lip Stain, and Skin Blur Foundation (if you’re looking for a topper for the concealer). You’re not missing out on the Pressed Highlighter and Brow Grip IMHO, but that’s just me ha!
