Why The NARS Light Reflecting Prismatic Powder Is Worth The Investment
A lot of things might change in the world of beauty but one thing remains the same: investing in a good base is still one of the best things you can do for your makeup routine. Yes there are many affordable brands out there that make good foundation, concealer, and powder, but if we’re talking about great then one needs to get a little spendy.
NARS, for me, still makes some of the greatest bases in the world. Their Light Reflecting Foundation is one of my holy grails since first use, and of course you can’t go wrong with their Soft Matte Concealer and Radiant Creamy Concealer as well! Recently I’m also loving the Soft Matte Advanced Perfecting Powder for setting my makeup - you have to try this if you haven’t yet, it makes your makeup look polished and holds your foundation down for longer.
Today though, I want to write a quick review about a limited edition product: the NARS Light Reflecting Prismatic Powder in Moonwave (P2,250 for 10 grams) which was released about a couple months ago. For me, this is a finishing powder to refine base makeup as opposed to setting powder to hold down makeup and make it last longer.
I’ve tried the NARS Light Reflecting Powders before actually (in pressed and loose form), and love them for their extremely smoothing velvety finish that negates the existence of pores (if that’s your jam). It also absorbs oil well, so you get a matte finish for hours longer than you would’ve if you used a normal setting powder.
All of these things are still true for the limited edition Moonwave, but this one has more of a brightening, almost a color correcting effect compared to the plain white Light Reflecting Powders. If you remember Guerlain Meteorites, this one has a super similar effect, feel, and finish! You’ll see in the pan that has shades of pink, blue, and yellow green, and on skin they have this translucent brightening effect.
A word of caution though: if you have a medium warm skin tone like me or darker, you might want to keep this focused more on the center of the face and as a highlight. In flash, it will have a reflective cast, so you want to keep the perimeter of your face bare so that you only get the glow where you want it. If you’re not dealing with any flash though, it’s fine all over the face. I do that too if I’m not expecting any flash photography in my day.
Overall, I find the NARS Light Reflecting Prismatic Powder in Moonwave to be a fantastic powder and I think I’ll finish this one for sure. Let me know what you think!
