Remedy co-founders Paul Rivera and Dr. April Geraldez-Rivera

The Birth of Remedy Clinic

Co-founders Paul Rivera and Dr. April Geraldez-Rivera sought to start a clinic different from others already established in Manila. Beginning with treatments targeting acne-prone skin, one of the most prevalent skin conditions in the Philippines, they wanted a clinic not limited to only the female audience but sought to offer a welcoming gender-neutral place that even co-founder Paul would be comfortable going to. Dr. April built on her experience both as a doctor and as a patient, as she grew up with acne and experienced how it affected every aspect of her life. She shared that she built the clinic she would have wanted as a child.

Remedy faced challenges almost immediately after opening, having first opened in late 2019 with the pandemic following shortly after. Faced with lockdowns and an inability to see patients, Remedy innovated and was one of the first clinics to offer online consultations. The lockdown also allowed them to start an online store offering highly acclaimed and exclusive products from brands like Apothecary and Innoasthetics. They weathered the storm and now Remedy proudly boasts two clinics, one in BGC and one in Vertis North.

The Skin Analyzer provides dermatologists a complete overview of your skin. The analyzer gets up close and personal as it takes studio quality photos under normal, UV, polarized, and specular light.

In a Deep Skin Dive, Remedy dermatologists Dr. Marian Kaligayahan, Dr. Den Fernandez, and Dr. April Geraldez-Rivera spoke on what made Remedy different from the others. Their resounding answer? The time investment for each patient and the use of innovative Skin Analyzer technology. The consult process can last up to 45 minutes as each patient is assessed and their treatment personalized. Each consultation starting with studio quality photos and analysis using the Skin Analyzer that can find hidden wrinkles, fine lines, and signs of sun damage.

The Treatments

Remedy has an amazing lineup of treatments for every need, some of their most popular treatments being the Glass Skin Facial (P6500/session), Hollywood Laser Facial (P11,200/session), and Hydraboost Facial (P8000/session).

One of the Remedy’s most exciting offerings is the Skin Pen, a unique microneedling device being the first of its kind to be cleared by the US FDA. The Skin Pen is the gold standard in the realm of microneedling.

Maxine Ching is one of Skin Pen’s most ardent believers. As a full-time host, content creator, and certified island girl Maxine is more than confident in her body but in 2022 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had surgery on her abdomen that left a large scar. After a successful recovery she focused on regaining her confidence of which regular use of Skin Pen played a pivotal role. Combined with other treatments from Remedy the texture and color of the scar have greatly improved, helping her regain confidence and feel like herself again.

Skin That Tells Stories

As each Remedy journey is unique, guests were invited to share their personal experiences with their treatments. Gretchen Fragada, Editor-in-chief of Metro Edit, finds that a Remedy session is the epitome of self-care, treating each session as a therapy session. Olivia Medina, a model and mom of 3 kids, found that work as a model and mom can be demanding and swears by the Fresh Eyes treatment (P8,000/session) to keep the bags at bay and attributes having good skin to being a deciding factor on if she gets the job or not. Landamme Vivas, a lifestyle content creator, shared that he still remembers a comment on his skin from four years ago. His Scar Healer treatment (P9,000/session) have provided him with more confidence even as he jokes ‘tiis pogi’.

What’s next for Remedy?

As Remedy evolves their core will always remain the same “Personalized skin solutions so our patients can achieve their most confident selves.” Our most confident selves extend to not just the face but also the hair and body and soon Remedy will be offering hair loss treatments for both men and women, not just restoring hair growth but also reinvigorating hair vitality. And not just that but patients will also be seeing more body treatments as Remedy expands their range of offerings. But their most intriguing launch will have to be the True Skin Microbiome Solution launching early next year.

And that’s not all! Remedy is expanding and there may be a Remedy clinic near you some time soon, with their Greenhills branch opening in November 2024 and with plans for five more clinics within the next two years!

My Personal Skin Analysis

My Skin Analyzer results under normal (top left), polarized light (top right), specular light (bottom left), and UV light (bottom right).

Remedy’s Skin Analyzer is an amazing technological feat, and I jumped at the chance to know more about my skin. The machine works by taking studio quality photos of your face at three different angles under four different types of light. Normal light can identify pores and measure wrinkles and skin tone as UV light measures melanin spots, sebum production, and porphyrin that can be produced by bacteria. Polarized light identifies pigmentation, brown spots, and redness while specular light measures radiance and identifies wrinkles before they form.

The skin analysis opened my eyes to the true state of my skin and showed me how in depth a Remedy session can be. The technician helpfully explained each step, pointed out each measurement, and patiently answered my every question. The skin analysis made me feel like they were psychic, because from a single photo they were able to tell how I applied my facial moisturizer and how often I applied sun protection. Even as a skincare enthusiast I still have a ways to go but I’m not too disappointed as taking care of myself is a continuous journey of skincare, self-care, and self-love.
