Shiseido Launches The Lavender Ring Project In The Philippines To Honor Cancer Survivors

"Shiseido's mission, 'Beauty Innovations For A Better World,' perfectly aligns with their commitment to using innovative beauty solutions to inspire joy among cancer survivors. This mission was brought to life at the "Lavender Ring: Makeup & Photos with Smiles" event, hosted last January at Shangri-la The Fort.

The Lavender Ring project, initiated by Shiseido in 2017, symbolizes the brand's dedication to supporting cancer survivors through the power of beauty. The choice of lavender represents the fight against all types of cancer, while the ring signifies unity and communal support for those affected. Shiseido's partnership with a diverse range of corporations and organizations in Japan has enabled the provision of makeup lessons designed to bolster the confidence of cancer survivors, defined inclusively as anyone diagnosed with cancer, whether they are undergoing treatment, in remission, or being observed.

In 2022, as part of its 150th-anniversary celebration, Shiseido expanded this initiative globally, bringing events to China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and, as of 2024, the Philippines. This global expansion underscores Shiseido's commitment to leveraging beauty as a transformative force, providing support and encouragement to cancer survivors worldwide."

Local NGOs that provide support and assistance to cancer survivors, partnered with Shiseido for the project's debut. These include I Want to Share Foundation, EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation, Kanser sa Adolescents and Young Adults (KAYA) Community, Kasuso Foundation, and I Can Serve Foundation. A group of 60 beneficiaries aged 15-69 years old were invited, including the Shiseido Philippines' three Lavender Ring Ambassadors who are cancer survivors themselves: I Want to Share Foundation Founder and Chairman Sheila Romero, chemist and Progressive Laboratories CEO and Founder Pinky Tobiano, and fashion and lifestyle content creator Ida Anduyan.

Certified Shiseido Beauty Consultants and hairstylists provided personalized makeup and hairstyling sessions. Celebrity makeup artists Mark Qua, Gela Laurel, Iowani Ungpingco, and Muriel Vega Perez, and hairstylists Lourd Ramos, Dale Mallari, Jeck Aguilar, and Justine Ocampo also joined in the sessions. They provided makeovers using products from the Shiseido Life Quality Makeup Perfect Cover range. These are not the usual Shiseido products that we see in-store; these are made specifically for "birthmarks, wounds, scars and bruises, changes in appearance from illness or medical treatments" including cancer. It's currently available in China, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan but Shiseido brought the line over especially for the event.

The special photoshoot exhibit and the heartfelt messages of the beneficiaries will be put on display at the Shiseido’s Lavender Ring website starting February 4,
