Swatches + Review: The Spotlight Soft Flush Powder Blush

Product photography by Perkin Gotohio

Blush is having a moment right now with the rise of Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan, and so the Spotlight Soft Flush Powder Blush (P495 /4.2 g) couldn’t have arrived at a better time. This collection features six matte blushes that promise to be lightweight, blendable, and long-wearing. They come in a pretty rose gold compact - quite similar NARS blush packaging actually, but without the messy rubber texture. Let’s see how these perform!

What I love about the product:

  • These blushes are truly long-wearing. I’ve worn them for up to seven hours with my normal makeup routine (I set my face with setting spray), and there would still be color after! I find these actually stain a little, the pigment is so strong. This is great for oily skin - they’ll look better as they melt into the skin.

  • The colors are all pretty! I adore Petunia and Peach Charme the most, although I don’t mind going for Poppy if I want my blush to truly pop.

  • These blushes have a super fine, well-milled texture - you’ll know what I mean when you touch it. It doesn’t feel like a drugstore powder.

  • There is 4.2 grams of product in the compact, which is a generous amount for blush. It will take you forever to finish one, especially since you really don’t need a lot per use!

  • I like the packaging, it’s easy to clean.

What I don’t love about the product:

  • These are pigmented, so you really need to be careful when you apply it. Use a light hand; a teeny bit goes a long way so don’t go ham when you get your brush in the compact. It’s easy to blend but difficult to correct once you get too much on. like I said above, THIS STAINS.

Overall

Spotlight has done it again with a good blush release! I enjoyed their baked Marble Blush last year, and the Soft Flush Powder Blush is a worthy follow through. Just be careful with the application - you might need to practice a few times to get the right balance of pigment on your brush - but once you figure it out I think you’ll enjoy how long-wearing it is. If you have oily skin, you should definitely check it out!
