Real Talk: Do sheet masks actually help your skin?
We here at PV have all the feels for our fave sheet masks. I personally love using them at night, particularly after a very long and challenging day. It’s such a hassle-free and cost-effective way to relax, care for my skin, and have a spa experience right at home! I even gift them to friends and relatives because I feel like it’s something everyone could and should enjoy. When it comes down to it though, is it actually helpful to incorporate sheet masks into your skin care routine?
Makeup for working out: This is Clinique's new line for your next exercise session
Beach season may be over, but the desire to stay healthy should be enough motivation to keep your gym sessions consistent. Getting that post-workout glow (whether naturally or via beauty tricks) doesn’t hurt either! And to keep that healthy flush going before, during, and after your exercise session, Clinique Fit is now in the Philippines with seven new products that keep up with that active lifestyle.
Staff Picks: The worst skincare advice we've ever received
The PV community has been a great source of reliable beauty tips and know-how, but once upon a time, we girls didn't have access to good information and didn't know any better! Here are some of the worst skincare advice that we've gotten from well-intentioned but misguided friends, as well as sketchy websites that we should have known better than to trust!
Beauty Roundup: A FENTY highlighter for a cause, Love Marie lippies, and Estée’s newest face
We’re finally getting some sun after a week of rain, and do we have the perfect beauty roundup to further perk up your spirits! We’re talking about Happy Skin Cosmetics bringing back one of their most loved collections (but with a twist) and FENTY Beauty’s heart of... silver? We’ve also got the scoop on Armani’s shade expansion and Estée Lauder’s newest face. Who’s ready for some good vibes? Happy reading!
The Local Blush Battle: Which of these blushes will win the crown?
Whether you’re rocking a full face of makeup or keeping it minimal and natural, sweeping on some blush is always a great way to add a pop of color into any FOTD. We love a cute flush on our cheeks, especially when we get intense color payoff and great staying power at a reasonable price tag. While many may have HG picks from abroad, Filipino beauty brands have been working hard to offer that same awesome quality!
Before You Get Active: A guide to using skincare actives safely
There are so many products swimming in a sea of beauty aisles that it’s easy to get confused, or worse, make a mistake about their usage. Experiencing a bad reaction after combining multiple things in your routine is not unusual but it can be avoided. This is why it’s important to know how to use certain products together by understanding the effects of each one so you can identify what you really need.
We’ve talked about the proper way to layer skincare products before, and the general rule is to apply them on your skin from water-based solutions to oil-based solutions. This can also translate to using thinner skincare products first to thicker ones, or lightest to heaviest. With actives though, things get a little more tricky.
Ready, Wink, Glow: Canmake's award-winning eye makeup is now in the PH
When CanmakePH announced that the Wink Glow Eyes line was now available locally, fellow PV writer Gett and I immediately drew up our wish lists and started planning for our purchase. The liquid eyeshadows placed #2 at the Cosme 2017 Mid-year Awards (Eyeshadow Category) and I wasn’t about to miss out on that. The product promises to be glossy, non-oily, and long-wearing all at the same time. It’s basically all the things I often look for in eye makeup, so I was beyond thrilled to try these new arrivals, plus a couple more products to complete the look!
Swatches: Cult favorite Colourette Colourtints get a fresh, new upgrade
I have been hearing great things about the Colourette Colourtints from the Project Vanity team and community. Pigmented, blendable, and with strong lasting power – for P249 each, they definitely sound like a steal! Recently, the Colourette team launched new formulations of this cult favorite to be even better. The original Matte shades now have an even richer pigmentation, and they introduced a new Fresh version for fans that prefer a lightweight, my-lips-but-better tint.
The Wonders of Water: Six tips for staying hydrated inside and out
When you pare it down to the basics, the easiest way to care for your skin is by hydration. Sure, skincare buffs can seek out anti-aging, brightening, and softening qualities in the lotions and potions that they carefully pat on but those are additional benefits that most often accompany the fundamental skincare formula: moisturizer. Staying hydrated both inside and out is the surefire way to get softer, smoother, and generally healthier in the long run.
With that in mind, today’s theme is all about incorporating the venerated H2O the smarter way into your daily life! Here are a few trusty tips.

Staff Picks: The empties we hoard and how we reuse or throw them away
I remember feeling impressed rather than shocked when I found out that Kim had kept all her empties from the past two years. Although it's hard to rival SIX GIANT BAGS of boxes and packaging, she is not the lone hoarder in the PV team. Now that she's finally gotten rid of her stash of junk, I think it's time the rest of us come clean. In this edition of the PV girls' staff picks, we 'fess up on our own empties collections, how we store them, and why we just can't seem to let go!
Editor's Picks: This is my super effective pimple-killing routine
Pimples are stressful little buggers that always pop out whenever we least expect them. Hormonal cystic acne will need to be treated with medication, but pimples that are just sitting on the surface of the skin all red and angry can be managed topically with a few well-chosen products. Here's what I do whenever I get one (or a few)!
A throwback to the 90s with Claudia Schiffer’s makeup line, now in the PH
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer has had a lot of time to ruminate on her makeup collection – she was the 90’s It Girl and has had a very active three-decade old career. That’s countless years spent having makeup done on herself, so who better to create a line than the woman who has served as the muse of countless photographers and fashion designers?
The PSA on PHA: Why this new acid may be the key to gentler exfoliation
One of the reasons I enjoy watching K-dramas so much is because they give me #skingoals; both male and female actors always seem to have smooth, glowing complexions! I've always been more of a skincare addict than a makeup junkie, so the Korean beauty concept of glass skin definitely appealed to me. In a jiffy, makeup can be used to mimic the look but I wanted something that was a bit more permanent. Was it at all possible to get my skin to look like glass, without needing a K-idol budget?
DHC Deep Cleansing Oil: Is this better than the Shu Uemura one?
This was a last-minute airport purchase as I was speed-walking to my departure gate at Narita. I had a few loose coins which I typically save for boxes of Royce chocolate as pasalubong, but this time I gave in and finally tried DHC! It's a popular skincare brand in Japan but they're especially famous for their cleansing oils that some say are better than Shu Uemura. I think that it does give Shu a run for its money!
Beauty Roundup: Sweet peaches on Sephora, new Ellana lippies, and Ever Bilena’s newest face
Happy weekend, everyone! Finally we can get to relax a bit. I’m sure it’s been a crazy busy week for all of you, so this week’s roundup has all the elements to put a smile on your face. We’ve got everything from the newest and peachiest collection on Sephora PH, to Ever Bilena’s newest face (she’s so gorgeous it hurts), and even a shade expansion from our most loved mineral brands. Let’s hang out and chill!
New Now: The limited edition Kiehl's packaging that's inspired by the PH
While one can reasonably expect for a homegrown brand to celebrate its roots, it's quite a statement for a global powerhouse to fête the Filipino! Last month, Kiehl’s commemorated National Independence Day with a pop-up store at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. The theme was ‘Kiehl’s Loves the Philippines,’ during which they showed an exhibit of the brand’s history as well as interactive stations that celebrate Filipino cultural icons.
A detailed look into Bobbi Brown's new weightless, full coverage foundation
Let me be clear: not everybody needs liquid foundation. It's nice to have, but if you already have pretty good skin then a layer of powder (with coverage depending on your preference) over primer (depending on how dry or oily you are) could be all you need for a great, long-wearing base! I often go out with just that especially if I don't really need to look photo-ready or dressed up.
"Lifestyle diseases" and how to get ahead of them before it's too late
We've often talked about "self-care" here on PV as taking the time and effort to look after yourself. It can be as simple as slapping on your favorite sheet, going for a full-on home spa session, or getting your tips and toes done at the parlor. But there is more to self-care than beauty and pampering, and the long queue that snaked through the Meralco Theater lobby for the Watsons World of Wellness event was a happy reminder that people haven't forgotten what really matters.
Lip & Cheek Balm Face-Off: The Colourette Coloursnaps vs Happy Skin Pinch Me
While tints may currently be the more popular option, I'm a big fan of lip and cheek balms. They're multipurpose (which saves money as well as kikay kit space) but also generally easier to use than liquid tints. Locally, we've got great new options from two well-loved, homegrown brands!
