Guerlain Shine Automatique Lipstick in Pamplelune

No one makes lipsticks like Guerlain. The brand not only creates beautiful shades that end up being classic choices, the lipstick tubes themselves become collectors' items. It's not the sort of thing you get because you want a pretty shade of lipstick; it's something you buy for the explicit purpose of treating yourself, of owning something you'll keep for the next ten years at least.

I've already made my case for luxury in another post, so you can read that (and the comments) for a more in-depth discussion of spending for beauty products. :) Here I shall review the Guerlain Shine Automatique Lipstick in Pamplelune (P2,200).

Packaging. The Guerlain Shine Automatique line boasts of a one-gesture opening. It's unique because it has no cap, instead replacing it with a button that when pressed downwards opens the top to reveal the lipstick. I lost my composure there for a moment, saying "oooooh" aloud to myself the first time I opened the lipstick. LOL! It's fun.

The case is a bit bulky but it's not heavy compared to the Guerlain Roge G (silver tube below), which is made of metal.

Formulation. The formula itself is designed to be sheer, ultra-shiny, and hydrating. I love that it melts on lips and does not require a lip balm! There is no heaviness or waxiness whatsoever. Of course, it has the signature Guerlain scent for lipsticks - a sweet floral note that lingers for a bit after you apply it.

Shade. Pamplelune is a reddish-orange with lots of fine golden shimmer. It's absolutely lovely and flattering, a fine way to wear orange without the commitment! It's supposed to be sheer but it actually leaves a fairly solid blanket of color on the lips. It does take a couple of layers to get a level of opacity but that's just really how the lipstick is envisioned.

The shade reminds me of the Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in OR 541. Pamplelune is more reddish though, and packs in more color. The golden shimmer also takes the cake because it reflects beautifully when light hits it.

Lasting power. As with all wet, sheer lipsticks, Shine Automatique stays on for at most three hours. That's the limitation of the formula.

Recommendations. If you like shiny, hydrating lipsticks in beautiful packaging, the Guerlain Shine Automatique Lipstick is one great product to try. It's the perfect gift for yourself this Christmas if you're looking for a luxe lipstick! Go for Pamplelune if you don't have a wearable orange-red lippie yet.

Verdict. Love it. This is something I will treasure for a good long while. :)

Thoughts? What's the priciest lipstick you've tried, and is it worth it?
