Talk of the town: The new Preview x Happy Skin Lippies

Lipstick lovers, rejoice! Happy Skin has brand new lippies in collaboration with another local style doyen - Preview Magazine. The mag is celebrating its 20 years on print, and I'm so glad that they're doing it with new limited edition lippies in a glamorous box. The colors are so on trend and designed for the chic, ultra cool Preview Girl, while the formula boasts of a matte finish and moisturizing feel. This is the first time Happy Skin is doing matte! It has been in the works for over a year.

But first, the packaging. Everything about it is rendered with attention to detail and with a luxe feel. From the gold lettering, the matte lamination of the box, the hand drawn elements, the print, and the removable tray, this set is something special. Even the tubes are glamorous with the matte plastic and gold bottoms. I cannot stress enough how I love that Happy Skin always, always makes sure to give us their best when it comes to packaging their products.

The formula glides on like butter - actually, it literally features cupuacu butter from the Amazon to help moisturize the lips. The pigmentation is remarkable. Both shades are opaque in one swipe and are rich in pigment.

It's hardly new, the concept of a moisturising matte lipstick, but it's not easy to find. I'm glad to say that these matte babies won't dry up your lips, though you might still want to wear lip balm if you have particularly parched puckers. Just to be sure! The staying power is about 3-4 hours, average for most lipsticks.

Ahh, and the colors. Okay. These lippies were made in collaboration with a fashion magazine, so the shades are editorial-worthy. Put them on a model for a high fashion shoot and they would look right at home! However, for everyday wear, I find the two shades not so ideal. Oh, they're certainly beautiful. But a gray beige nude and a deep, deep wine red aren't shades you can wear to the office or schools. They're too dressy! They're perfect for parties and shoots when you can go wild with makeup but not so at the mall, for instance (unless that's your thing, in which case don't let anybody stop you!).

Too Cool is a "greige" shade, much like the Liz Uy Style Icon lippie. It has comparatively less pink and brown, and looks more like concealer. It's opaque. It blanks out lips completely if you're light-medium to morena. If you're fair this would sho…

Too Cool is a "greige" shade, much like the Liz Uy Style Icon lippie. It has comparatively less pink and brown, and looks more like concealer. It's opaque. It blanks out lips completely if you're light-medium to morena. If you're fair this would show with a  bit more color. Too Cool is a nice option if you have discolored lips and would like to blank them out before applying light lippies.

Naturally, there are a couple of "hacks" you can do to make these lippies wearable. One is to mix the nude Too Cool with the red Hot Stuff to create a mauvey pink. The other is to use Hot Stuff as a light stain instead of a solid layer. Simply put a bit of it on a finger then smoosh it around your lips. This way, you get a custom color! ^_^

Below is a mix of Too Cool and Hot Stuff. I applied the nude first then added a bit of the red. It creates a dusty mauve shade that doesn't look DIY. So gorgeous!

It's only P999 at Zalora currently if you use the code Happy upon checkout. The promo is only available until June 7, after which they will be sold at the regular P1,099 price for the set and P599 for each lippie.

The box btw is completely reusable. Simply pop out the plastic tray and you can store anything from art materials, washi tape, to even makeup in it. It's really more sulit to get the set!

And that is that. I'd love to know what you think about these intriguing shades, and how they're looking on you if you've already grabbed the set! ^_^
