Review + Swatches: Here's what we think of the SkinPotions Aladdin Collection

When you live outside of Metro Manila, there are very few places to get your beauty fix. Back in my home province, there are only two standalone makeup kiosks inside malls. SkinPotions is one of them, so I’ve been curious about what this local beauty brand has to offer. When they recently came out with an Aladdin collection, I just had to try it because Jasmine is my favorite Disney princess! Will this make me look as fabulous as Prince Ali?

Brow of Wonders in Dark (P499)

This is a dual-ended brow product, with a pencil on one end and a browcara on the other. There are 3 shades available: Light (blond brown), Medium (ashy brown), and Dark (charcoal brown). I tried the shade Dark, which had a brown-gray, almost black color that suited my natural hair color. The pencil is super pigmented and not so waxy, and even the lightest stroke would deposit a lot of pigment. I find that the angled tip makes it super easy for me to fill in my brows.

The browcara also has the same dark gray brown color, and instantly makes my thin brow hairs look fuller and lush. Combined with the super pigmented pencil, my eyebrows can actually look too lush so apply this sparingly and with care. The formula is not waterproof, but as long as you don’t rub it, it does stay put even after a couple of hours of commute.

Two Wishes 2-in-1 Highlighter and Contour Stick (P499)

It comes with a pearlescent white highlight and a warm brown contour. Both cream formulas proved to be a dream to blend! I particularly like the highlighter as it blends to an almost matte white, which makes it look natural and subtle on my fair skin tone, but may be too light for darker skin tones.

The contour is a bit too warm for my preference but it still does the job. The chubbiness of the stick makes it super easy to draw on my jaw and the sides of my face, but it is too thick for my nose and chin so it’s better to use a brush to dab it on instead. The product also claims to not crease, which proved to be true in my experience.

Jasmine Eyes Sleek Liquid Eyeliner (P399)

Featuring a unique spear-like felt tip, I have never seen an eyeliner like this before. It actually looks like an arrow - wide on one side and narrow and pointed on the other, with just enough give for it to be pliable. In theory, this design should make creating a winged liner look easier, but I found it difficult to draw with because the tip drags on my eyelids. Otherwise, it’s pretty solid matte eyeliner but it’s prone to smudging, especially on oilier eyelids or when you sweat.

A Whole New Matte Liquid Lipstick in Curious (P399)

There are a total of 3 shades available but we only picked up the shade Curious because the pinkish mauve shade is a flattering and easy to wear color. Contrary to the product name though, I find that the finish isn’t matte at all if it’s applied as a full lip. The formula doesn’t quite set -  it stays slightly sticky, which can be uncomfortable. I guess the good thing about this is that it doesn’t suck the moisture out of my lips. If you prefer a more matte look, this can be applied sparingly then spread out over the whole lip. The color lasts for about 4 to 5 hours, and can survive through drinking but not eating.

Glowdust in Sizzle (P399)

This is not part of the Aladdin collection but we had to also try this after seeing raves about it in the Project Vanity Community (hi Belle!). It turned out to be a great idea and instantly became my favorite of all the products I tried from the brand. This is a super shimmery finishing powder which sets your makeup and somehow makes it look matte but glowy in just the right angles?! It also seems to offer a bit of coverage, and makes me look like I spent hours perfecting my base makeup! I have dry skin so I wasn’t able to check if it has oil-control properties, but it kept my base makeup perfectly intact even after a couple of hours of commute. And in case you’re wondering, it smells like powdered milk.

Finished look

Apart from the Glowdust, I liked the highlight and contour stick best, especially the highlighter side of the stick. I can’t rave about the Glowdust enough, but I do wish that it had a puff or something to keep it from spilling all over the place.

This first experience with Skin Potions has been a largely positive one, and I look forward to trying more of their makeup line. Have you tried SkinPotions before? What would you recommend for us to try next?
