I asked my boyfriend to do my makeup - here are all the comments he made

I consider myself really lucky to have found a guy who not just accepts the fact that I love makeup, but who is also interested in it. No, my boyfriend doesn’t wear makeup, but he always asks me about my makeup purchases and encourages me to post makeup looks.

One afternoon, I decided to surprise him with a challenge. I asked him if he’s willing to do my makeup. To my delight, for someone who has zero experience with makeup, he was so quick to say yes!

Because I’m sentimental, I made sure to take a video of the experience. Now while I can’t share the video with all of you, what I can share are the things he said throughout the process of doing my makeup. If you have no experience with makeup, then these might help you manage your expectations.

Nangangawit na ako!” (I’m already tired!)

Would you believe that he said this just two minutes in? He was applying my foundation with a beauty sponge and he already felt tired! I guess this validates the fact that doing your makeup can be considered a workout.

“Ang dami nito. Nararamihan ako. Sayang! Hala, napunta sa sahig!” (This is a lot! I find this to be too much. What a waste! Oh, no, it went on the floor!

We’re all guilty of this. There are times when we pump out more liquid foundation than we need. When it comes to powder, we make sure to tap the excess onto to the pan so we won’t waste the product. I’m so glad my boyfriend cares about my makeup not going to waste.

Ano ibig sabihin ng coverage?” (What does coverage mean?) “Is there such a thing as too much powder?” “Para saan ang bronzer?” (What is bronzer for?)

I love makeup and I love talking about it. Whenever I get the opportunity to talk about makeup, I take it. I’m glad my boyfriend’s curious. I enjoyed answering his questions and educating him about makeup. Maybe it’s the college instructor in me, but I can go on and on about makeup, really.

“Ang ganda ng shade na ‘to.” (This shade is beautiful.)

He was pertaining to the brown eyeshadow he was applying. I took note of it since it’s something he likes. While I wear makeup for myself, it’s still nice to know what the special people in my life like on me. Also, sometimes we appreciate a color so much more when we see it on someone else.

“Ano gagawin ko? Sabihin mo kung masakit, ah. Sorry! Bakit kasi may ganito pa? Pati pilikmata na nananahimik! (What do I do? Let me know if it hurts, okay? Sorry! Why is this part of the process? Our eyelashes are doing nothing wrong!)

Yes. You guessed it right. He said this while curling my lashes. The sorry was for when he accidentally pinched my skin with the eyelash curler. It was so hard not to laugh while looking at him having a hard time with the eyelash curler. This is why makeup artists let the models curl their lashes themselves.

Pwede bang no mascara look?” (Is a no mascara look possible?)

Again, I was trying not to laugh so hard. We all have a makeup step that we find hard to do, so we tend to skip it sometimes. For me, it’s liquid eyeliner. For my boyfriend, it’s mascara. I’m so proud that he didn’t give up.

“I don’t want to f*ck it up.”

I introduced RuPaul’s Drag Race to him so I’m so happy that some of the show’s catchphrases are part of his vocabulary now. Anyway, he said this while applying lipstick. He knows that lipstick is my favorite, so I’m glad that he is making sure to get it right. Come to think of it, whenever we do our makeup, all we want is to not f*ck it up, right?

Okay, so there’s only one way to end this. It’s time for the reveal! Here’s the look my boyfriend did:

He did such a good job! Some people might say that it is beginner’s luck or that it’s only a natural look, but I beg to disagree! He really took his time and knowing how competitive he is, he made sure that I would love the final look, which I truly do!

What do you guys think about the look he did? I’m planning on challenging him again soon, this time with a look that he has to copy. Any suggestions?
