Reading Tellie’s generational beauty brand guide struck me a lot because I saw how effective the Korean marketing strategy was on me. I used to like wandering around The Face Shop when I was younger, and desperately wanted to get that ink lippie that Suzy Bae was endorsing at the time. Now, I feel like I’ve graduated with her and have come a long way to a rosy, Lancome lippie-wearing path.

But I guess we never really outgrow our “bias”. If Frankie has BTS and Stacie has Seventeen, Gett has GOT7!

The Korean idol group GOT7 and The Face Shop recently released the #GOTTHEFACE kit, which showcases GOT7’s top three picks. Of course, there’s exclusive idol merch to be had, but let’s pretend I was reeled in by the skincare plus face base combo.

Yehwahdam Heaven Grade Ginseng Rejuvenating Serum (P2,595)

The thick, creamy texture immediately made me think that this would be more aptly called a cream rather than a serum. This claims to improve skin elasticity and hydration. On my oily skin, I found this nourishing yet lightweight enough to be used as a moisturizer on its own. It’d be nice layered under thicker creams for colder weather or for those with dry skin! It gives me a really nice glow, post-application, and I was pleasantly surprised that the cream helped to soothe a particularly painful breakout.

While I appreciate the heft of the packaging, I wasn’t really keen about the heavy perfumey scent.

Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Panthenol Soothing Gel Cream (P1,695)

When Nine (our graphic designer and photographer) opened the tube to take photos, we immediately noticed a strong, unpleasant scent. It smelled like something rubber was burning, but it (sadly) came from this! The scent does go away in time, but it was not a good first impression.

Scent-sations aside, this is a lightweight yet substantial moisturizer. You only need need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. This may not be enough for dry-skinned folks but oily gals like me will find this a nice moisturizer overall. This helped a lot in soothing redness and irritation on my skin, thanks to the 2.5% panthenol, which is known to promote wound healing and help retain moisture.

Miracle Finish Anti-Darkening Cushion (P1,195)

I have personally given up on cushion foundations because of the lack of shade range, but I gave this one a go, for love of PV. It has a skin-like, buildable medium coverage, and doesn’t oxidize or darken. In fact, it has a brightening tone up effect. I start oiling up by midday when using this, which is not bad at all.

I made Nine try this on since the cushion matches her skin tone better. It does a great job of covering redness, and it photographs so well! If you can find a shade match and enjoy cushion makeup, this is a nice formulation overall.

VERDICT: If these were really handpicked by GOT7, I’m really impressed with the curation. Used together, the products in this collection could definitely get you that glowing yet natural-looking idol-worthy face base that we all strive to have.
