Five IKEA pieces to add to your kikay wish list
Get your wallets ready guys for IKEA is coming to town! News broke out the other day that the Swedish giant best known for their modern aesthetic and do-it-yourself furniture assembly is finally setting up shop in the Philippines. And while there is no confirmed date or location yet, we couldn’t resist doing a little online shopping and curating our dream beauty haven. Room and vanity tour anyone?
Drawers to store our stash in
If you spend hours on YouTube, you'll notice that many a beauty vlogger’s room tour feature the Alex Drawer Unit ($79/~P3,730). The slim storage seems to be one of the beauty world’s top picks when it comes to storing makeup. With five to nine drawers and three available colors (black-brown, gray, and everyone’s favorite white), the Alex can fit your palettes, toiletries, lipsticks, foundations and just about any other item in your collection. While we have plenty of options when it comes to storing your makeup hoard, there’s just something about the minimalist Alex that tugs on our hearts.
A personal styling station
Just as artists would have a dedicated workspace to hone their craft at, every makeup addict should have a dresser or vanity to get their pretty on. These IKEA ones are easy to maintain and fits just about any design theme with a bit of dressing up. Pile on those cute desk accessories and makeup items, and you’ll have a Pinterest-worthy vanity in no time!
The Brimnes Dressing Table ($100/~P4,721) comes with a built-in mirror that disappears into the desktop when not in use. You can also store your daily go-tos in the inner compartment to free up table space.
Another popular option is the Malm Dressing Table ($169/~P7,978). It has an easy to clean tempered glass tabletop and a long drawer where you can put your most reached-for beauty items. Having your gear all within reach is a must if you want to get out the door fast!
Work magic with a looking glass
While those "doing your makeup without using a mirror" challenges make for entertaining videos, that's realistically something we would only do if we're putting on lip balm. A table-top option like the sleek Tysnes Table Mirror ($19.99/~Php943.72) can transform any flat surface into an impromptu vanity, and the tall design allows you to apply makeup at a comfortable level instead of having to bend over a small mirror.
Always wanted to say "mirror, mirror on the wall"? The SaltrÖd Mirror ($59.99/~Php2,832) includes a small shelf and mounted pegs where you can place accessories, sunglasses and other small essentials so you don't forget to put them on or take them with you.
A throne fit for a queen
Let's face it: it can take hours to perfect certain makeup looks and you don't want your gams to start to ache even before you've walked out the door! IKEA has a wide range of chairs to choose from, and just because the item you want is in the office furniture category doesn't mean you can't use it for your vanity in the bedroom.
Wheel around in the Snille Swivel Chair ($19.99/~Php944) or add a touch of color with the Tobias Chair ($79/~Php3,730). If you opted for one of the vanities above, a low seat like the Nils Stool ($49/~Php2,313) can easily be tucked away under the dresser.
Cue the lights
If you're not feeling crafty enough to DIY a Hollywood mirror, IKEA has got you covered. The Musik Wall Lamp ($29.99/~P1,416) has five bulb attachments that disperse light better than a single source. You can easily attach two sets on either side of your mirror to illuminate your makeup sessions! Each setup requires five bulb attachments, and we recommend combining warm white and cool white bulbs to achieve your color temperature that approximates natural light.
Stay organized
Having enough storage space is a challenge when you just can't stop shopping for makeup. Store your ever-growing collection in the Râskog Utility Cart ($29.99/~Php1,416) instead. The open trays give you full view of all your cosmetics, perfect for people who need a visual reminder of all the makeup they own to prevent further hoarding. The wheels make it easy to bring it closer to your vanity wherever need it, and store it out of the way afterwards.
Don't you just hate it when you're looking for a particular product and not being able to find it because your makeup is a mess? The Godmorgon box ($18/Php846~) can help prevent that from happening again. It's built with smart compartments so items stay orderly. Also gotta love the clear acrylic material - it looks so luxe and makes it easier to spot products that somehow get buried under everything else.
If the all-white designs and minimalist aesthetic look too bare to you, some natural wood breaks the monotony. Your lipstick bullets can stay safe and secure in Dragan boxes ($12.99/~Php610) which have top and bottom compartments that allow easy access. It's a more compact storage option compared with acrylic inserts, perfect for folks without a lot of space.
There’s plenty more that we’d love to hoard from IKEA but we thought we’d reserve adding to our list with a trip to the actual IKEA Philippines store. Hands up if you’re as excited as we are! What are you most looking forward to seeing at IKEA? The furniture, the Swedish meatballs, or the chocolate?
