Staff Picks: The Beauty Icon Edition
Let's talk about our girl crushes. C’mon, we know you have them! These are the ladies who are beautiful, stylish, and powerful, in addition to being famous. They’ll go down in history as the queens who shaped their respective generations, and yes, we’ve probably fantasized once or twice about what it would be like to live their awesome lives if only for one day.
Our female role models inspire us through their personalities as much as we get inspiration from their style and beauty looks. This week’s staff picks is a tribute to the women we’ve admired from afar!
Liz: I had a Marilyn Monroe phase at some point in my life. I watched her best movies and obsessed about her life! She is stunning, that's a given, but that's not so hard to come by in Hollywood. What makes her so unforgettable for me is that she is the most charming, charismatic person who ever graced the silver screen. It is a joy to behold her watching talk and speak and sing!
Kisty: Audrey Hepburn and Natalie Portman are both ladies who exude beauty, brains, and class. Aside from being utterly beautiful, Audrey Hepburn did charity work and she embraced aging quite beautifully. If you google her photos that were taken in the early 90s, you can see still that twinkle in her beautiful doe eyes. Natalie Portman, on the other hand, is a brilliant actress who managed to handle both acting and schooling. I read somewhere that she was still studying while filming in Star Wars: Episode 1. I also think she's a brilliant actress, especially in Black Swan!
Den: I'm definitely an Audrey Hepburn girl! She had the most exquisite features and irresistible doe eyes. Her beauty is actually a bit exotic compared to Hollywood's other glamour girls, and I always thought there was something about her face that made her look intelligent and interesting. I dream of being able to rock her pixie cut in Sabrina, and finding a mascara that will give me fanned-out lashes without resorting to her scary beauty hack!
Katsy: My top two beauty icons are Rachel Bilson and Olivia Palermo. The two of them together is my perfect mix. Classy, sassy, and chic with that approachable girl-next-door vibe.
Stacie: My favorite beauty icon is myself! Hahaha, chos, joke lang. Since I grew up watching dramas from the eastern side of the planet, Korean actress Park Shin Hye is my favorite beauty icon. I first saw her in the 2009 drama You're Beautiful and until today, no joke, she hasn't aged and is still as beautiful as ever. Most people probably recognize her as the -adult- female lead in the tear-jerking movie Miracle in Cell No. 7.
Jorj: I love Francoise Hardy! She's not your typical beauty girl. But, to me, she's the epitome of a cool girl. She has a natural, effortless vibe -- a je ne sais quoi - to her that I adore. If I could age as well as her, I would be a very happy old lady.
Rae: Emma Stone! I became a fan after watching Easy A. Then several months later, I saw her billboards wearing the bold colored Revlon Balm Stains. I thought it was so out of (her Easy A) character. I wasn't into lipsticks, much less bold lipsticks at the time. She's the one to blame for my lipstick love affair!
Kim: The most beautiful face to have ever graced the living world IMO is Grace Kelly. How does she manage to shine and glow the way she does in black and white pictures? Seriously, she puts the strobing technique to shame! Her bone structure, sleek tresses, and perfectly arched kilay - TDF! The one word that I associate with her beauty is ethereal.
Marielle: My beauty icon is the Duchess or Cambridge herself, Kate Middleton. I've been a fan of hers ever since she and Prince William announced their engagement. I was so amazed by the royal-worthy transformation she underwent, a long way from the earlier paparazzi pics splashed across the tabloids. Since then, she's developed a signature makeup look that smoothly transitions from day to night. Meaning, the elegant makeup can be worn at a formal event or in the office. Love her outfits as well!
