Here's a three-step skincare routine - this time for your lips!
When it comes to beauty products, it’s lipstick that always makes me go weak in the knees. I had a phase of obsessing over 70s pale nude matte lips a la Anna Karina in Une Femme est une Femme. I’ve tried to recreate Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s dark glossy lips moment. I double take whenever I spot a lip in bright tangerines, Peggy Carter reds, and anything rosey, regardless of color nuance or finish.
Because I enjoy wearing lipstick A LOT, I’ve learned that it’s important to give my lips the same TLC (tender lip care, hehe) like I would with my skin. I love applying lip balm, but it’s just not enough. Lips are a specialized skin area, and just as your face can’t survive with just moisturizer, your lips has other needs as well. Enter Burt’s Bees’ new Lip Care Regimen. This three-step system offers solutions to keep your lips soft, smooth, healthy, and lipstick-ready!
STEP 1: Exfoliation
Just as you would need to remove the dead skin cells on your face, your lips need exfoliation as well to keep off dry flakes. The Conditioning Lip Scrub (P395 for 7.08g at Beauty Bar) features honey crystals to gently buff away dead skin. The lip scrub is quite gentle - almost too gentle that I can’t tell if I’m buffing away dead skin or the honey crystals. It has sweet honey scent that made it tempting to eat! Like all Burt’s Bees products, the formulation is 100% natural. Use twice or thrice a week to keep your lips soft and flake-free.
STEP 2: Overnight mask
Next, treat your lips with the Overnight Intensive Lip Treatment (P395 for 7.08g, Beauty Bar). This salve is rich in ceramides, which help to plump up lips with moisture so it feels super soft and smooth. While the instructions recommend it for nighttime use, I find that I can get away with using it during the day to prep my lips for lip color. The formula feels incredibly silky and smoothes the lips immediately upon application. Do note that this has a minty scent and feel that can make your lips feel tingly.
STEP 3: Balm + color up!
A tinted lip balm is great if you want both color and moisture in one product! Use the Tinted Lip Balm (P545 for 4.25g at Beauty Bar) to keep your pout hydrated throughout the day. The balm has a lush texture that makes application feel like a treat, and my lipstick addict self is plenty happy with the color payoff. The best part is that it comes in six different shades, so you have color options for matching with your makeup or your mood!
Burt’s Bees products claim to be 100% natural and are formulated without parabens, phthalates, SLS, or petrolatum. As with all products, we recommend to do patch testing before applying to the whole area. While shooting the photos for this article, Den discovered that the Overnight Lip Treatment triggered a very mild allergic reaction, which caused her lips to get a bit swollen.
