As a potter, designer, and author, Jonathan Adler has all the right tools to take you to an exotic destination through cosmetics. In fact, the Clinique + Jonathan Adler collection is inspired by his three favorite holiday hotspots: Palm Beach, Florida; Capri, Italy; and Santorini, Greece!

Editor's Pick: My absolute favorite perfume right now
My absolute favorite perfume right now is the Aerin Gardenia Rattan. I never knew I loved the delightful smell of gardenias nor the honesty of rattan, but they're seemingly made for each other in this Aerin masterpiece. It was meant to capture the perfect summer's day in a bottle and I think it did a really good job! I have dozens of scents in my closet right now, but I am addicted to Gardenia Rattan because it puts me in such a good mood.
Real Talk: Is talc bad for you?
If you’ve been following the news, you may have heard that the courts have ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $110 million to a woman who claims she developed ovarian cancer as a result of applying talc-based products to her genital area. Both the brand and its talc manufacturer Imerys have been considered negligent as they failed to include a warning about the cancer risk related to the use of talc-based products.
The story led to quite a bit of panic, and many people quickly threw out their J&J baby powder products. If you don't have a baby or sport the polbo-tint look, surely none of this affects you, right? Wrong.
Store Visit + Top Picks: Banila Co's new boutique in Trinoma
Banila Co is one of our favorite Korean brands here on PV. From taking on their 7-day sheet masking challenge to discussing how their best-selling Clean It Zero works as a gentle makeup remover, there’s been plenty for us to explore about K-beauty with the brand. We actually learned quite a few tips from their brand ambassador Cho Heena and we’re constantly fangirling over their celebrity frontrunner, K-Pop idol Taeyeon! The hype is real so we definitely don't want anyone to miss the opportunity to try out their awesome products. Lucky you if you're a QC girl, because the brand has opened a store in Trinoma!
Six tipid moves that don't really save you as much money as you think
We feature a lot of budget-friendly stories and products here on PV because we believe in making smart beauty buys and stretching our peso as far as possible. We love discovering drugstore dupes, whip up our own DIYs, and even challenge ourselves to do P500 faces. But not all penny-pinching habits are equal. Some of the may even turn out to be very expensive in the long run! Here are six common scenarios that you should watch out for.
Is the Glossier Cloud Paint worth it?
Building a beauty empire out of a blog is no longer an impossible dream, thanks to entrepreneurs like Emily Weiss who paved the way for the rest of us. Into The Gloss is one of my favorite websites from years ago and I'm glad that its offshoot beauty brand, Glossier, has become an international sensation as well.
What you need to know about Taiwanese skincare brand 23.5°N
We regularly feature a lot of Japanese, Korean, and of course, local beauty products here on PV. Personally, those are the ones that excite me the most! Asian Beauty (or AB) has been growing in popularity because, well, there are so many affordable yet effective product options. I also feel they are better suited to the needs of Asian skin, with formulations that are often lightweight and designed to be layered on top of each other.
I’ve tried and enjoyed picks from Japanese, Korean, and Pinoy brands but I couldn’t help but get curious when I learned that Taiwanese beauty was going to be the next big thing.
Make-up Class: Alum Jigs Mayuga on his return as a CAS instructor
As one of the most popular and sought-after makeup artists today, Jigs Mayuga is undeniably a hero in the eyes of many budding makeup artists. And, like many heroes, he comes with quite a unique origin story. In a world full of “self-taught” beauty gurus and “natural talent,” Jigs stands out as an artist who openly sought out a more formal route, enrolling as a student of the Center for Aesthetic Studies’ (CAS) pioneer batch in 2004.
Thirteen years later, the student is now a teacher and more importantly a partner who will be directly involved in ensuring that the quality of education is of the highest standards.
Staff Picks: Even more of our favorite highlighters
So, I just recently realized that the Lunasol Pressed Face Color I included in our Staff Picks last time is actually an illuminating powder. Yep, such a fail, I know! For those of you who like me did not know the difference, a highlighter is generally applied on a concentrated area to emphasize certain features such as the cheekbones, nose bridge, and bow of the lips. On the other hand, an illuminator is used to create a lit-from-within look so it's usually applied to a larger area or even the whole face.
Beauty Roundup: H&M Makeup in PH, tween fave Careline rebrands, and anti-pollution skincare
Makeup, makeup, and more makeup! This week’s roundup has got to be one of the most exciting ones yet as big things are coming to our shores and new-ins are having us do the happy dance. Known for her rose gold packaged goods, Charlotte Tilbury is stepping into the liquid lippie arena (to much praise and delight) with 10 new lipsticks that we never knew we needed. Claudia Schiffer is back in all her gorgeous glory as she unveils a collaboration that is as super as she is, and Maybelline has got us slaying our brow game ASAP. Did we mention that one of our favorite teeny bopper brands has gotten a huge (and very millennial) makeover? Who’s ready for some jelly?
On a budget? Blackwater scents are kind to your wallet
When you have the perfect outfit, flawlessly-applied makeup, and the right accessories to match, all you need is a fragrance for the finishing touch! Aside from making you smell good, scents are also a means of self-expression. It can enhance your mood and help you to create the right impression. Thankfully, those who don’t want to spend a whole lot of money for a scent will find that there are good options in Blackwater Fragrances.
Five ways to get the most out of your dermatologist visit
Thanks to the popularity of the 10-step Korean skincare routine, we are definitely learning to pay more and more attention to our body’s biggest organ and how to properly care for it. Many a beauty girl can reel off the various actives, acids, and -ides to look for to solve problems such as dark spots, fine lines, dry skin, and more. But while DIY-ing one’s personal skincare has never been easier, nothing quite beats medical advice, especially for more serious concerns such as milia, allergies, or premature signs of skin aging. In a sense, it’s like comparing WebMD to a visit with the doctor: the former may be useful for minor or short-term issues, but when facing major crises or long-term maintenance, you’re better off going in for that physical checkup.
Origins now has sheet masks, and they're only P150
I first fell in love with the facial masks from Origins at their Mask Madness party, where I got to try their best-selling the skin-smoothing Original Skin and pore-cleaning Clear Improvement masks. Both are fantastic wash-off formulas but as I've gotten used to a Korean-type skincare regimen, I wanted a sheet mask that I could apply at the end of my routine and just leave on. My wish came true with the arrival of the Origins Flower Fusion sheet masks!
Makeup for Men: Four affordable bases for enhancing skin
Here's the thing: it's not fair that only us girls get to use makeup to make ourselves feel good. I believe anyone should be able to use makeup to uplift their spirits and help them feel more confident! If a guy has blemishes or dark circles that are deducting from his pogi points or making him look haggard, why makeup-shame him for using concealers?
Surprising quality for P195: The Ever Bilena Matte Liquid Lipstick
If my memory serves me right, the first nude lipstick I ever bought was the Ever Bilena Matte Lipstick in Mauvey. This was almost a decade ago. Bright pink was the color to wear and nude was normally an unflattering sickly color on Filipina skin tones, but Mauvey was different. It was satisfyingly nude but without the dead zombie look. At less than P150 back then, I got to try a color I wouldn't have experimented with at any other price point!
Breaking News: I've finally found a flattering nude nail polish
I've been writing about beauty products for close to ten years now. I have what may be a surprising confession though: I give no fucks about my nails. Sure I have moods when I want to put on nail polish and get a ~gasp~ mani-pedi, but that's once in a blue moon. Nails aren't my thing. Most of the time they are half-bitten and my cuticles are dead wastelands of despair.
Five genius ways to use your facial sprays WITH makeup
We all want the same thing after spending hours of perfecting our makeup: a photo-ready look that lasts forever, or at least until the end of the day! Just as styled hair needs hairspray and manicures need a top coat, a finishing touch at the end of our primping session can make a huge difference!
This new eye cream is P645 and targets fine lines, dark circles, and stressed skin
Eye cream is like sunscreen. You don't know you need it, until you notice your skin showing the abuse! Your skin responds to the stress you place upon it, your habits, the environment you move in, and the food you eat. You can't expect it to be the same forever - you can only manage the natural aging process. It's beautiful and I believe that everybody should own it, but that doesn't mean you should not care enough to manage your skin as it ages.
Now one of the most requested products from us is eye cream. We did surveys and focused group discussions, and we learned Project Vanity community (you!) wanted something that can multi-task at a good price point.
Prices + First Impressions: Hourglass is now available in the PH
After teasing us for weeks, Sephora PH finally has Hourglass Cosmetics live on site. Fans of the brand as well as those who are curious about all the raves can shop online and get it on their doorstep in three days*! Sephora also offers cash on delivery (you pay when you get it) so you don't need a credit card or separate payment service if you prefer not to use them.
ANYWAY. I've been using the Hourglass products that Sephora sent me for a couple of weeks now, and here are my swatches and first impressions!
