Skin Update: This Is Exactly Why You Need To See A Dermatologist

Filipinos in general don’t like consulting with dermatologists. We’d rather “do our own research” and test countless products by ourselves rather than pay a fee to go see a professional for half an hour. We have this mindset that we should only consult a doctor if it’s seriously affecting our quality of life. Never mind that the symptoms have been worsening for months, even years; we’ll go only when it’s bad enough that we’re already in pain. I 100% fell into that hole; I was arrogant and believed that my expertise in the beauty industry is enough to fix my severe acne issues. I was completely wrong, and here are the photos to prove it.

I started seeing Dr. Erin Tababa-Santos in January because I’ve had enough of my acne. They kept popping up no matter what expensive AF skincare product I used, and they were cystic and painful too on top of that! Thick layers of concealer and foundation could barely hide the redness and the deep marks on my skin. My self-confidence took a hit. I couldn’t step out of the house without concealer. Finally, I set up an appointment with Dr. Erin, and I am so glad that I did. It is the single most life-changing thing I did this year, and I am dead serious about that statement.

I honestly don’t want to share these photos but I just want to drive home the point that this massive improvement was only possible because I saw a professional. Six months ago, my skin was full of blemishes and terribly inflamed. Today, my skin is fairly clear and I go out without concealer and foundation without sparing them a second thought. Saves me so much time every day! People keep complimenting me and asking me for the list of skincare I’m using, but honestly it’s Dr. Erin’s oral prescription + the use of Epiduo that contributed to this improvement. Yes I have good skincare but they’re only secondary to the medication that calmed down my hormones and skin irritation.

If you’re struggling with severe skin issues by yourself, I see you and I hope that my story will encourage you to seek professional help. Stop wasting money on OTC solutions or worse, self-medicating based on information online. It might seem like a significant expense seeing a doctor and buying the proper medicine at first, but the long-term benefits far outweigh the cost. You deserve to feel confident in your skin, and often that means putting your trust in a dermatologist.

Remember, self-care is not just about pampering yourself with the latest products; it’s also about seeking the right help when you need it. My journey with Dr. Erin taught me that true beauty starts with healthy skin, and healthy skin often requires expert care. Don’t wait until it gets worse—take the step towards better skin today. You won't regret it!
