Jeffree Star opens new branches + a review of the Velour Liquid Lipsticks
Jeffree Star Cosmetics arrived in the Philippines late last year at the freyja concept store in Glorietta. If you don’t frequent Makati, though, the brand has opened a branch at SM Mall of Asia and another inside SM Beauty in Megamall!
The Megamall branch currently offers all 35 shades of the Velour Liquid Lipstick (P1,300). There is literally a shade for everyone in this line - from nudes to reds, all the way to crazy, out-of-this-world colors! If you are looking for a statement lipstick with a capital ‘S,’ this is a great line to check out.
They also have two sets of eight mini Velour Liquid Lipsticks in nudes and in reds, priced at P3,600 for each set. It’s good value for money, if you ask me! Jeffree Star merchandise such as the stunning metallic pouches are also available. The next two months are going to be more exciting as more products from the brand arrive, including the Skin Frost highlighters and eyeshadow palettes like the much raved about Beauty Killer Palette.
I got to take home 6 shades to try, including some really eye-catching bright colors! They’re very different from my usual pink lip, but I love how the blue and lilac shades pop out.
The packaging is made of acrylic but doesn’t look cheap, and the cap locks in place. I find that the doe foot applicator picks up a lot of product and feels a bit rough on the lips, which surprised me considering the price point. I tried Androgyny first because it’s one of the line’s bestsellers. Even though I applied lip balm beforehand, I could immediately tell that unscented formula would be drying for the lips. However, the pigment is smooth and opaque in one swipe. In fact, just one dip of the applicator is enough for my entire lip. Once the lipstick set, it felt comfortable and I actually didn’t notice it through the rest of the day.
The color lasted until my next meal, and even then I only needed to retouch a bit. It leaves behind a bright stain and crumbles a little bit. I had a good experience with Androgyny so I expected the other shades to perform similarly, but this was not the case.
The bright colors were a bit patchy on the lips, and didn’t set completely. Den struggled to apply Anna Nicole evenly because it wouldn’t layer well, and it ended up transferring from her upper lip to her lower lip. The lipsticks are very intensely pigmented so they can’t be removed simply by using micellar water. I find that oil makeup removers work best in removing them, though Den was also able to use the In Her Element Nourishing Cocoa Balm to gently remove the color.
What makes the Velour Liquid Lipsticks stand out is definitely its stellar shade selection. If you are looking for unique shades and rich pigmentation, this is the brand to check out. In terms of performance, though, it varies depending on the shade, so it’s still best to try them out in person before purchasing. Find Jeffree Star Cosmetics inside freyja in Glorietta 2, and in the SM Store Beauty Section of SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall.
