New Blemish Buddies: The Drunk Elephant Protini Resurf Serum and Cream

Ever since I was a teenager, blemishes have always been my bane. Now that I’m 35 I have blemishes AND drying skin. I can’t just slather the alpha/beta hydroxy acids on without paying a price, so I have to be extra intentional about the skincare I use. Luckily, I got to try the Drunk Elephant Protini Powerpeptide Resurf Serum (P5,150 / 30ml) and Polypeptide Cream (P4,150 / 50ml) and they’re both sooo good!

The “resurf” part got me interested, and indeed the Resurf Serum contains 10% lactic acid which is an AHA. That and the Cream also contains a host of peptides to help skin rebuild its collagen. Here’s a quick analysis of the ingredients list of the Resurf Serum and what they are intended to do:

  • Moisturizing/Hydrating:

    • Glycerin, Squalane, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, and Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer are known moisturizing agents that help retain water in the skin.

  • Exfoliating:

    • Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps in exfoliating dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover. The presence of Glycolic Acid (within the Lactic Acid/Glycolic Acid Copolymer) also supports exfoliation.

  • Anti-Aging:

    • The variety of peptides (e.g., Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, etc.) included are known for their potential well-aging benefits as they may support collagen production and improve skin texture.

  • Brightening:

    • Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract is known to have brightening effects on the skin.

  • Antioxidant:

    • Tocotrienols, a form of Vitamin E, along with Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Seed Oil, have antioxidant properties that can help protect the skin from environmental stressors.

  • Nourishing:

    • Various oils such as Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil (Marula Oil), Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, and Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil provide nourishing fatty acids that can benefit the skin.

  • Skin-Soothing:

    • Some of the amino acids listed (e.g., Alanine, Arginine, etc.) as well as the Nymphaea Alba Root Extract could provide skin-soothing benefits.

  • Skin-Barrier Support:

    • Ingredients like Phytosphingosine, Phospholipids, and Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols are known to support skin barrier function.

I have to say - love the top pump! It keeps the bulk of the cream untouched until dispensed

After using the Resurf Serum and the Cream for a few months - typically only at night - I’ve found that my skin has become smoother and more moisturized. The best part though is that my blemishes fade faster! Using the serum for days at a time helps to break up the pigmentation fast without drying or irritating my skin. Of course, I wouldn’t recommend to use this everyday if your skin is not used to acids as it may cause irritation for sensitive skin.

I do love using the Polypeptide Cream every day though! It can feel a bit heavy at first, but it absorbs and creates a nice occlusive barrier while also nourishing the skin. Together, the Powerpeptide Resurf Serum and the Polypeptide Cream are my favorites for well-moisturized skin that encounter less blemishes.

FYI if, like me, you’re so tired of dealing with spots all the time. Let me know how these work for you if ever you try!
